I had one hell of a time getting the outboard manifold off on the stbd engine when I replaced them four yrs ago. As the heads of the bolts were worn away and coundn't get a wrench on and couldn't get at it to grind the head off, I took a sawsall and cut the manifold lenght wise. The manifold took th...

I stayed with the logs. What about the one inch spacer between the logs and the riser? John, do you have the spacer? I was told you can't get them anymore and some body on this board said you don't need them. I intend to replace the risers this winter and am asking around about those spacers. One ma...

Got my TWIC card yesterday just about six months after I applied. I lost out on not paying the fee because it took the jerks so long. $135.00US. I asked the issuing officer what this card will do for me. He said, "it will keep your license for you". In other words if you don't have one, your CAPT li...

Fiber glass top
We have a Bahia Mar with a fiber glass top over the helm and engines. The top is 20 yrs old and has crazing in a few spots. And in some places the crazing is such that the gel coat is lifting off. Do I sand this with 220 paper and then fill in the voids? On another topic .... does white vinegar clea...

Getting back to the topic, I have a mooring at Fair Harbor for any and everybody to use. I drop the family off at the dock, tie up to the mooring and swim in. And there is a 31 tied up to the private dock w/ 315 Yannies. The boat floats across the bay... what a site. Very pretty! The Great South Bay...

Bertram sale
The 42' convertible on the "sell&swap" portal prompted this thread. Last fall I was taking a party over to Fire Island for a barbrcue and as one gal got aboard she asked if this was a Bertram. I said, "Yes". Then she repiled, "Sally here just sold a Bertram". "What model was it?" " A 42' convertile"...

Three yrs ago I wanted to sand blast the bottom to get all the old paint off. It was Feb and I launch in April. EVERYBODY said it's too late in the season to blast it off. The hull will not dry out. I'm ready. The bottom is painted, zincs on, cleaned and waxed. Let's go. But the water off Long Island is 38 degrees. That's just about as cold as it gets here. So we'll wait a while. 'Till the ice clears the creeks.
