When I was a wee lad of questionable character in the boat biz up north for two winters we always made sure our storage boats had charged up batteries before putting up and disconnecting cables. Very rare did we see an issue. We stored over 100 boats. Cold weather kills low and weak batteries. Of co...

On a non recovery system the level can be a couple inches down to allow for expansion when hot.

Peter, You can start by sitting down and figuring out both on ac and dc what circuits you will need, Example ac, outlets, air con, reefer, gen set or just shore. DC, running lites, engine ignition, horn, bilge pumps, ect. Write it down on paper, mull it over a few times and this will decide the size...

I used one on a repower in 07 in a trawler. It ran good, always had good service with perkins. Parts sometimes were an issue.

Not sure if those were what Brewster had in his boat before the 6lp repower and sold them to Russ P for his 31.

Tony is correct. With 2:1 on those 496, that was a lot on 1 3/8. But you got 7 years, not bad. 2:1 is correct for current setup due to rpm I saw the same setup on many new boats all the time when 7.4l went away and big boy gas came along, then a few years down the road 1 1/2 shafts became more stand...

Terminal strips are usually the junction between the breaker and the load.
It aids in allowing the builder to pre wire a panel with a pigtail built in a shop, then install on the boat and connect to loads that have had their feeds pre run to panel location.

The 5.7 over the V6 is a good option and since they are popular, the pricing can be better. I never repowered the 26 so I can't tell you actual performance or fit. I've done V6 to 5.7 repowers on similar boats and ran into few issues with better performance.

In my case the owner didn't want to pay a dive service to change the props on a regular basis. He wanted to fish one week, dive the next, etc. As a new diver he tried changing the props himself underwater, about drowned.

Caveat on those engines. There is a narrow point on those engines where loading won't allow the turbos to spool up thus black smoking. Used them on a Bert 28 repower. Ran decent but slow on sea trial. Owner seemed happy. He got dive certified and loaded the boat with 3 guys and gear with full fuel. ...

As long as the pump is self priming good changes are you won't need a scoop.
But I have seen self priming pumps have issue at speed and if put were turbulence at speed is a factor.
