Re: Yanmar rust
The paint is good, its just applied sparingly and in some cases in the tight areas, not at all. Everytime a zinc is changed, a hatch leaks, a water pump leaks, etc the fresh/salt water unless washed off and dried will start to rust. There is enough steel that the rust starts. Its a maintenance item ...

2019 Hurricane season
I don't pay too much attention to the season talking head predictors and hype doctors, but time to take stock in supplies and review plans incase a storm approaches. It's not hard at all but there is a caviat. Helms that are mounted vertical allow water to run down the shaft to the face of the helm. Many times there is a wood backing to support the helm. That wood gets wet and remains wet. All that moisture can cause corrosion between the aluminum body and stain...

A little secret.......... As a former floscan distributor and master installer the way I checked the basic accuracy of the fuel burned on the guage was have the customer top off their tanks. Not necessarily.
My maintenence schedule on impellers was every two years. While many will go longer, when I did this stuff full time most my customers wanted to be able to use their boats without worrying about something breaking or leaking.
Regular maintenance solved that problem.

The twinscan line was short lived due to cost of micro processor based guages vs the cost of analog. They also required the use of isolated ground senders to work properly 100%. One caviat on those screws. The thread parts are brass nut zerts pressed into the plastic. If screws are frozen in them the zerts can be twisted out of plastic.
If the screws won't back out fairly easy, soak with a good penetrant that creeps. Try again.

Those par heads do have seals that will leak back into the motor and on the floor. I've also seen thread sealer in injectors, pumps and such.
There is a proper way to use both. But we all have our go to.

Just for the general knowledge, npt is national pipe thread. It is a tapered thread and depends on the resistance of the male against female to seal. Always use a sealant or Teflon tape. If you have a straight or running thread it will use a gasket, oring, or seat against a internal seat of some kind.

Like control cables it's not the bends themselves, it's the radius of the bends.
Use long radius bends not tight bends. Bridge is fine.
The biggest issue is they never get used and freeze up over time. Disconnect the end once a year, exercise the cable and re hook up.
