Rawleigh,
Thanks for that mental image that will take weeks of heavy drinking and prescription drugs to get rid of.

John, As part of the repair coverage you have to state that you know that all the proper maintenance and adjustment has been done. If you don't or can't prove it with a maintenance log they won't cover so they say. They also won't cover any repairs if its done as a preventative measure. You have to ...

Not all engines in that range will have a problem. Coverage is for repairs or failures. Don't know if you pulled a running survey or if the tell tale sign of valve tapping is present. The preventative repair can be done without head removal by an experienced 6LP tech. Then you won't have to worry at...

John, There is a rod that operates the fuel pump lever off the cam. When you pull the old pump out, it will slide down against the inside of the mounting plate. Make sure you push this back up and rotate the engine by hand to have this rod at its shortest stroke. Makes putting the new pump in that m...

Russ, I have removed many oil pans which receive regular oil change maintenance. Some with very high hours do show signs of metal flakes resting on the pan. Most engine show no signs of anything on the pan. Better bearing materials and better casting with less flash really eliminate the need for tha...

Forget the hose thread. Just slide a 3/8 id hose over the stub above the threads. No need to go inside the tube. The optional oil change kit attaches to the bottom of the pan and is a 3/8 hose same as the tube. Tube is just as fast with a good vane pump without heating oil. My little pump will clear...

Has anybody use'd Clarion marine speakers?
Got a customer with 250.00 Babb marine 10" subs that didn't last 5 years.
Babb folded in 04 due to hurricane damage so they say.
Looking at a replacement 10" marine sub.
Clarion has a 350 watt 10" sub for less than a Benjamin.
Model is CMSW10.1
Any reviews?

There are two positives on every solenoid. One is the coil the other is the feed for the load. If your going to jump something, jump the feed to the load. This is what is switched by the contacts. Probably no need to mess with the ground if the solenoid is clicking. There is only a ground on the coi...

If you get a click at the engine when you push the start buttons, then chances are its not the start buttons as they are making connection to operate the solenoid. You got the wrong ratio gear box for the 31 for most of the guys here with those engines. (edit for clarity) It should have been the 2:1. With the 1.5:1 there was no need to go to 1.5" shafts as the prop size doesn't warrant it. I would suspect you'll need to drop down to a 18x18 prop. Edit: The 1.5...

Jeffrey, Diesel needs 3 things to start and keep running, air, fuel and compression. Sounds like you have the last two. One thing that stuck out in your second post is the engine sometimes not shutting down which points to the fuel valve. Start with that for both problems. Next would be to make sure...

Checking the advance under load takes two people. Most dampers have the tdc and before and after degree marks. If it doesn't have them, check flywheel if you have a removable housing cover. If not you will need to get a degree wheel and mark up to 40 degrees on the damper or flywheel, where ever you...

Bob, I think your trying to reinvent the wheel. Good designed side vents aren't a problem at all. The air is no more humid or salt laden pulling from the side vents, good ones, than the gunnel. But noise is much more present anytime the engine is open to the cockpit. Every boat I've repowered is tes...

Never said 4000 rpm was fuel efficient. A stock marine engine should stick with the recommended timing and also check the advance under load with a good light. One thing that is over looked on marine engines is the dist. shaft bushings. This can vary timing at higher rpm or make timing irratic. Your...

Rawleigh, Running "too" hard won't burn a hole in a piston. If you were told that, they're wrong. You burn a hole in a piston from wrong static timing, bad advance in the distributor or the wrong spark plugs. This will cause either excessive heat or knocking both of which will kill a piston. Very po...

First thing you want to make sure is that the shaft is true into the coupling and the face of the coupling is true. If the coupling was anything but a very snug fit on the shaft, look at that. If the coupling is cocked on the shaft it will produce an eliptical path. So will a bent shaft. Don't assum...
