I'm not up on the laws (or lack thereof) in Florida, but up here in the Blue States, bottom paint needs to be removed and applied under the 'watchful eye' of someone with the proper license (usually an exterminators license).

Aluminum tanks should be coated with coal tar epoxy prior to installation. Properly prepare the metal so you get good adhesion.

The 2.43 gear is going to cost you some speed compared to a 2.0. But what I would really worry about is all that mechanical advantage snapping a shaft. Do you know what alloy the shafts are?

This was Pats recommendation: In terms of raw water sizing, always go one size larger than the engine fitting for the through hull fitting, and 1 size larger for the strainer. ie: Engine raw water pump fitting = 1.5"; through hull should be 2" for standard or 1.5" full flow; strainer size should be ...
