Re: Battery Parallel Solenoid Amperage
As a 'safety first' guy, I'm totally in favor of more gear vs less. I have three solar chargers...... but I have no place to set them up other than in the cockpit. So if i was 70 miles out and tied to a lobster pot, and woke up to dead batteries, I would certainly use them to charge the gen set batt...

Guys, Excuse me, you’re intelligent people...stick a solar panel over the bridge and FORGET about solenoids, capacities etc. For heavens’ sake, in 10 years you will not be able to circulate by car into major cities if it’s not electric. Re: Keeping sea water out of bilge
There is no retractable model large enough for our mooring conditions... And outrageously expensive, may I add. I've occasionally used 3/4" when there was a hurricane coming, but 5/8" is plenty for these boats. As for mooring, I have removed the cleat from the bow and installed a single bollard wit...

Mike, Why is the 9DB useless in close? Does it step on everything so that you can not be understood? I'm not 100% sure, but I think of it in terms of a camera lens. Any way you slice it, and no matter where you are, a boat can sink in 30 seconds. Safety first. Since you're starting from zero, it makes sense to do it once and do it right. Get a GPS and a VHF that can communicate with each other. You can get a distress signal off in 5 seconds, and the coast guard...

Do you have a GPS, and if so, which one?
Many VHF radios are able to interface with a GPS and have an SOS function which will send your exact location over channel 16.

Stainless is beautiful but the welds will crack, in time. This can result in anything from just being a constant annoyance to catastrophic failure at the worst possible moment. You can treat aluminum with alodine and then paint, but the paint will peal, in time. Once that starts, there's no stoping ...

Front window is the ticket, but you have to remove the window and remove the door from the fridge. The box should never go bad.... When you settle on one, buy a spare set of electronics and a spare compressor and stick them in the garage.

Four days, five nights with airfare is about $5,700. Three days, four nights is about $5,000. Plus tips.
That's 3 to a boat, fishing offshore. You can spend less if you want to fish inshore, or with 4 in a boat.
