Bob,

If you see the full roll of photos it's clear that the captain was on the bridge, not in the tower. I believe that he was standing up, and just got pitched.

First, putting 2000 hours on an engine in one year will probably do less damage to it than putting 500 hours on over ten years. Second, most of those old engines that are still in service didn't have aluminium parts in them. Many are also fresh water cooled. Now as for the life span of the 350.....w...

The average boater puts 35 hours a year on their engines and will never wear out an outboard, BB gas engine, or even come close to the long term benefits of diesel. Simply not true. Time is as big (or bigger) an enemy as running hours. Dissimilar metals sitting in salt water=bye bye sixty large. Su...

Sean,

I've seen some pretty experienced guys who have boats that suck in a following sea, come in through the inlet........backwards. They simply let the waves break over the bow while backing down sea.

Quick wick, or lamp wick. Works well and doesn't break the continuity.

Brass is soft and will stretch if you over tighten. Teflon sometimes doesn't seal too well unless you crank down on it. If you're installing stainless steel, use tape or paste.

There are stories about bow pulpits on cheap boats that have ripped off, taking a chunk of the foredeck with them, when the bow gets buried in choppy seas.
