Excuse my ignorance as I have very little offshore fishing experience (but tons of Chesapeake experience). Are most large Dorado females? Can you tell the sex externally, without cleaning them?

B28 hydraulic steering
I'm about to install hydraulic steering in my B28. I currently have the rudders out of the boat, rebuilt the rudder shelves. I obviously have to reinstall them for measurements...but was hoping someone here could save me some hassle by recommending an appropriate hydraulic cylinder, system, etc. Any...

The 4BT is 150/155 hp, depending on what you read. The 4BTA is 250 hp. I have two of the 4BT's which I am about to put back into a B28 I am restoring. I bought the boat with the motors, all neglected. I talked to another B28 owner from bertram28.net. He said he cruises at 18 kts and can do 20-21 kts...

Bow rail, pulpit, bow rail extension
As many of you know I am working on restoring a B28. I have purchased and installed a bow pulpit from Glasstech. It fits perfectly and really looks good with the boat in fresh paint and coming back together. My question is, has anyone installed this pulpit with the bow rail addition? Any pictures? M...

I hear ya on west marine. Even with a port supply account, electronics prices are terrible. Other products can be more reasonable with ps account, when in stock. I've had them match printed out online prices too, depends on the store though. Nice to know about calling the 800 number. Also, not sure ...

Hey guys, just wanted to get a thread going of suggestions/reminders of the best/cheapest places to buy boat products online or otherwise. As I get closer and closer to putting my B28 back together I need more and more parts. Shouldn't this be the other way around? Anyway, any websites worthy of not...

I didn't look close enough at the ad and this one is the old style (larger tach). Back on Ebay it goes. I'll p...

new gauges, original panels, How?
Wasn't there a post within the last year about squeezing a bunch of new gauges (yanmar/cummins) into a B28 or B31 gauge panel? I've purchased two Cummins gauge panels, new on Ebay for half-price. Trouble is I think I'll have to take apart the panels to configure the gauges on my B28 flybridge. I'll ...

As I put my B28 back together I have more and more questions...Thinking about it, my b28 had the dynaplate on the bottom. Re-installing it on the transom would reduce some drag, however minimal. Walter, the 250hp cummins is a 4BTA, as opposed to my 150hp 4BT. I have also seen 4BT's on ebay and elsewhere from trucks/equipment rated at 105hp and 130hp. I don't know much more than that. I know many Carolina Classic 28's had the 4BTA's. They have a discussion board with lots of info on the 250h...

I've been working on restoring a B28 that I purchased in Charleston, S.C. about 2 years ago. I am now ready to clean the fuel tank and run new fuel lines for 2 cummins 4bt's. I saw the "fridge" yesterday. Turns out it is a big fiberglass cabinet with a cold plate type box built in the top, compressor in the bottom. On the left side is a single burner stove. Let me get this straight, one d#%*head with a sail boat and you've made up your mind that all sailboaters are equally as ignorant and rude? This is about as logical as generalizing one's race. If you are in the marine business, I'm sure you have had equally rude and ignorant requests from power boat...

B28 restoration, Keep the lower station? Also a Cummins ?
I have been told that it is very difficult to see out of the lower station, especially when in rough seas. Has anyone found this to be true? I am considering removing the lower station altogether and extending my "usable" space in the cabin. This should also simplify my restoration via less cables, ...

Tower too big for a B28?
I am currently restoring a B28 flybridge. Has anyone been on a B28 with a tower and is it uncomfortable? I have been told that the deep v makes rocking very uncomfortable. Also, is the 31 wider than the 28 at approximately 11'? Thanks
