Those of you who have known me for a bit know I have a dog that means a lot to me. I remember coming on the board 8 years ago and talking about how excited I was to be fortunate enough to have her in my life as a new little pup. Last week I discovered a lump in her throat, which the vet suspects may...

Re: Capt. Pat, channel & fuzzy question
Ed, American Marine has now become a division of Pompanette. They don't do custom windows any longer. I bought a spool of that plastic from Richard Bertram years ago, but gave it to Skip at Brewer Street Boatworks in Newport, RI. I figure since he is on Bertrams often, doing work, he could use it mo...

I've thought about that solution. I have shore power but its not formal at all. I plug an extension cord into the house where the dock is and occasionally it gets knocked loose and I have dead batteries when I arrive. I also like to keep the refrigerator running to keep the contents cool. Friday nig...

Thanks guys. Over the years I have done a huge amount on this boat myself. I can lay fiberglass really well, but I am more of a rough carpenter v...

Yannis, I definitely agree about the flybridge. I have a bench that I fabricated seats three very comfortably or just me and the dog but I have to make a choice between the two scenarios. The dog does not share very well and now that she's full-grown she takes up the majority of the bench. It's able...

Thanks guys. Its been a journey, as many of you know! Yannis, I can give you my perspective on those questions. I chose to remove the windshield because I believed that it would help the structure of the boat be "tighter", and feel just plain stronger, in addition to actually be stronger. Yes, my wi...

I need help sourcing something. On my new tower/hardtop there is a decent sized opening under the aft railing. Bob, I understand why you like the docking lights 100%. I used to have a set in Alchemy and when they worked, they were great. No reflections off the deck and no night blinding. Here were the limitations at the time, many have been touched on already. 1) the old aluminum ones rot out and die. they a...

Long in the teeth? A V850 is long in the teeth. Even the stuff between the JRC raytheon days and this is long in the teeth. This is a pretty nice machine actually. It would have stayed on the boat but I was adding another screen. Vanity made me want them to match.

Ultimately all units are pretty user friendly, and have similar options. I think it comes down to how comfortable you are with user interface. I spent a couple hours at the metal working shop in RI yesterday roughing out a conceptual design for the new hard top for Alchemy.
