I see a lot of our 31 Berts all over their website, including several of Buddy Boy. Anyway, I think it's great these boats and the design gets so much attention. I can see a bit of each redo in these "new boats" and aside from the obvious weight and coring it doesn't look like anything incredible or...

The actual levers travel plenty but it runs out of cable....if you know what I mean. If there was another inch of travel it would be fine. It worked fine with the original morse controls but adjusting the Solo II's is a royal PITA. At the most fwd position it still physically has about 2" of room to...

Bob, My problem is I do need the extra RPM. 2500 robs me of 100rpms of high cruise and it makes a big difference in speed as you know. Flat calm days I can only get 26knts whereas I could get more with the 3000WOT option. Maybe I do jump up the idle to get a few more on the top end? In the C&D Canal...

The issue is all in the Solo II controls, there are adjustments are the terminal end as well as a cam type adjustment at the throttle levers. It's the lever end that I can't figure out. When it was first launched it was great, then someone wasn't content getting 2850 WOT on the throttles and wanted ...

Having single lever controls makes docking so easy. I should really work on getting every bit of travel out of the gears/throttles but I can't figure out these Solo II's. I have it at idle 700rpm but only 2550 at WOT (run out of travel space on the controls). If I jump the idle up to 1000 I get 2650...

Mikey, For the record my performance is the same as yours. Idle is at about 700, 20x23 4 blade props, 6BTA 300hp and there is no way I can get to 3.5knts on one engine. In the marina I am bumping one engine in and out of gear to slow down. I remember offshore with both engines in gear at idle was ab...

Just bought a pair of block heaters as well. I remember last year pulling the boat, Dec 7 with about 3" of snow all around. Took awhile to get the Cummins started in 30 degree weather. Won't have that problem anymore.

Not like that. That's nothing. I know EXACTLY what Nic is talking about. The boat handles so nice in a following sea, you don't realize how dangerous it can really be. The wind is blowing 24 knots, you're making 24 knots, the seas are building, and you feel like you're standing still. Until you cre...

Dripless shaft help
I have dripless shafts, not PSS, but can't remember the name. Went for the first ride of the season and everything went well till about 2200rpm then I heard a strange sound from the starboard side, not the engine, not the trans....but pretty sure it was the shaft area. I quickly throttled to neutral...

Fishing/charter recommendation in Venice, LA
A couple of my friends want to head to Venice, LA to do some offshore fishing this August. Can anyone recommend a place to stay and a good charter outfit? I believe their plan is fly on a Wednesday and come back to Philly (hopefully) on Sunday.
Thanks.

I'm about to enter season 4 with my Cummins and was wondering what is recommended for maintenance? Belts are in good shape, oil changed, etc but is there anything else i should look to do? Random pictures of the redo
I'm trying to find some old photos to put together a log of the redo for the for sale ad and I have started with about 300 totally random pics of the boat up on a website. Seems like forever ago but these pics sure bring back some memories.

Where is the best place to buy these block heaters? I could wire them right to an open breaker on my AC panel. Might be a good winter project. That trip can be brutal if you don't have the right conitions. Last year it took 7 hrs to go from AC to the C&D canal, the ocean was a breeze but the DE bay was tight, nasty, cold chop right in the face the entire time up to the power plant (Salem) and we managed about 14knts in the bay. This past s...

The flop house just wasn't the same without the 31 crew there but with the Marriott going for 559 a night and the flop house 89 it is still the best deal out there. Loan for 31 Bertram
Since the boat is for sale I have been getting a lot of questions about getting a loan for the boat. Called a few places today and they follow the BUC/NADA books and place no value on a survey. Said on my boat (and prob every other 1974 with diesels) they can probably get a 45-50K loan at the max. T...
