Brewster, Amen. I just think they can leverage off the best boat ever built to a greater extent. Not with a " retro" 31 re-do, there are too many originals for easy money, they are like Ferrari chassis numbers in a way, (without the zeros), or a victim of their own success. Why would you buy a Class...

With any builder, cars - boats - planes, they have models that build their reputation and others that don't. Changes in ownership, management, changes in technology, economic times all have an effect. Think Ferrari, Aston Martin, Bentley, Ford, Gulfstream......Riva, Hatteras, Bertram. Pleasure boati...

Hueso, That's a bit harsh but I can see why you'd say that, so maybe fair. I remember driving the first of their 70ft sports-boats with surfacing props at 38 knots, 60ft rooster tail, was a real hoot but I feel what I've got now is much better. On board the 31 yesterday, on the drift in protected wa...

Andre, There is a boatload of boats like that, the designers all influence each other. Here is one I used to be involved with, almost the same as the 68: http://www.warrenyachts.com/ The designers of a Lexus sports model car say they picked up design influence from an early one of these types so Ran...

I have nothing but good things to say about dealing with Danny at Hightide, he was just great to us. The "Bertram" factory here, called Carribean now and they've changed the hull of the 35 which is the biggest seller here, are famous for doing things their way or not at all. The family that owns it ...

Makes sense as there are only two 31s in Oz. They were very happy to hear that the Faithful are keeping them in mind and apolo...

Brewster, Touch wood we've been lucky. Patrolled marina, in view of a busy road and we don't keep much of value on board. I remember someone mentioning the Molo squid teaser, well I found one, from Ft Lauderdale, hanging up in the back of the local fishing store, covered in dust, had been there so long they didn't know anything about it. I couldn't resist. Can anyone tell me how to set it best and what fish it works wi...

Every deep vee planing hull I have ever driven benefits from trim tabs, from 16ft to 56ft. They are promoted to improve fore and aft trim, to me that is marginal, pulling the bow down into chop helps with some hull shapes in some trim conditions in some sea conditions. The main benefit is countering...

Bob, Most of the outriggers here are fibreglass especially on the charter fleet out of Cairns and most run 4 rods only plus teasers and live bait maybe on a kite with the occasional boat running a centre rigger, which I like. Rough weather is the norm with trade-winds out of Cairns and the West Coas...

Galley Sink Poll by Capt. Pat
Capt. Patrick,
You had a poll a while ago about thoughts on galley sinks.
We've had Tennessee almost a year now and I used the sink yesterday, so I guess that's a Yes Vote.
I know the mail is slow but you should have something by now.
Regards,
Nic

Ian, I just love that shot but I think it has more to do with a banking turn to port than chine walking. I don't have any high speed experience of the 31 but they were a successful race boat until the skinnier Aronow hulls and back then must have been going a lot quicker than 35 knots. I recall seei...

I don't know if you are all Elmore Leonard fans, "Get Shorty" & about 40 other best sellers, but in the film version of his book "Out of Sight" which I watched tonight, they need to show that Jennifer Lopez's dad (Dennis Farina) is a cool, no-nonsense private investigator and all around good guy. John, I agree, you should be able to change the ratio - that sounds like a very reasonable deal. If the engines are 2001 manufacture date or earlier they will be in the "ticking" problem era. It's not easy to find out the date from the engine No.s but you should be able to track the selling dealer. ...
