It seems that the temp sending unit and/or gauge is bad. Once I washed the heat exchanger w/muriatic, I fired her up & headed out. It went right up to 200 degrees and beyond. But when I shot the engine with the temp gun, it was under 180!! I have a new mechanical gauge & sender which'll go in as soo...

That's some good info...thanks!! The raw water intake hose has a frayed end, it's in crappy shape. I had no idea air needed to be bled from the cooling system!! (ahem). I didn't see any steam at cruise from exhaust; there seemed to be a good flow of water, and it was lukewarm. Also.....pump cam? fin...

3208 running hotter than it should
I know these engines run on the hot side for diesels. Under load (steaming) she got up to 195 running her around to Old Harbor from New Harbor (B.I.). She ran at 180 last year. We just put a new impeller and thermostats in, and cleaned the heat exchanger. Aside from a faulty sender or gauge, what th...

trolling valve for 3208T w/unknown gear
There's no "nameplate" on the gear...the engine is rated for 320 bhp. Any ideas on what trolling valve to get, who to get it from, and, most important, how to tell which gear I have?????? :)

Steve, Do they have any minute plans where you can pre-pay for the minutes and not lose them after a year? If so, I'd be interested in getting one. Thanks. John. John, They have a bunch of different plans, I suggest Googling "Globalstar service plans" or the like. You can take your pick of monthly,...

Steve, before the satellite issues, Globalstar was great for me from the Gulf to Panama to mid pacific. If they return close to that, its a great service and considerably cheaper than Iridium. I prefer the Iridium's sound and clarity over the good Globalstar but certainly that's bound to change. To...

Thanks for the feedback! I hate the idea of renting because of the possibility of having to pay brand-new price if I break it; or (very high) insurance rates to protect it. I googled sat phone service after posting; they had a great article on it, how there's only four providers, and how only two of 'em are appropriate for the occasional user in the U.S. They mentioned Globalstar's problems. I've been thinking about one for years. If I'm gonna go offshore in a 26' boat, I oughta have one!!
I'm wondering which carriers/systems are better, and which to avoid.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I'll be priming the new windshield and engine box today. We've been rewiring the boat, and are getting slightly confused. I have not been able to find a 3208 service manual (for less than $200, that is) which shows a wiring schematic. Any ideas? Just need to know where the gauge wires originate........
