Good morning guys, I need some more boats to feature on the Bertram website. If you're interested, please send a short writeup about your boat and a few photos. Once again, it can be fishing stories, how you redid the boat, repowering, just about anything is fair game. Thanks for the help. JB jbrown...

Pete, Had the boat surveyed to renew insurance last August and it's still for sale. I've showed it to a lot of people but all lowballs so far. Fine by me because I still love the boat and it's running great. But the fact is, everybody wants triple engine outbaords that cruise at 50 mph and they will...

Thanks Frank! It's going to be a lot of fun. Just got back from a great shoot in Charleston, SC, and I'm off to Key West today to shoot another show with RT Trosset. We're hoping to put together a shoot at Tropic Star in the fall as well.

Abaco Yacht Services on Green Turtle is an excellent yard, I've had them work on my boat before. On the left as you enter Black Sound. And there are several great yards in Man-O-War too.

Re: 37 Bertram
Bob, I don't think QSMs will fit in the 37. I looked at repowering mine with 450C recons and even that was a very tight fit. Length is the issue: the engine room in the 37 was designed around V-block engines and is short. To put in the 450Cs, we would have had to cut 7 inches off the shafts and the ...

Re: 37 Bertram
I have a 37 with the 450 hp 6V92s and at 1950 rpm I'm cruising 22 knots and burning about 35 gph. The Cat boats are decidedly slower. I've had great reliability from the Detroits. It's true they like fuel, but I've put a lot of hours on mine without a single major failure, and the 37 is a truly grea...

Cheeca is fabulous but big money. There are lots of good, affordable choices here in Islamorada. It's the classic old Keys-style resort on the oceanside just north of Bud-N-...

That is the boat Gert, thanks for the link. I stand corrected, I thought they only built the one. I know they had structural issues with them and most had to have aft cabin bulkheads installed to stop the house from flexing (and breaking).

Re: Bertram 37 progress
Gert,
Is that the 37 originally named Hot Chili that was built without an aft bulkhead, as a day boat? It's the only 37 I know of with forward salon windows. It ended up in Southern California where a friend of a friend owned it but I have not heard of its whereabouts in many years.

A note about the list: We never called these the "best" fishing boats built. It's the "top" boats built, in the opinion of the SWS staff and contributors who voted. Another group might come up with a completely different list, but I'll bet that many of the boats we picked would make any such list.

The 38 Special was a cool boat but ultimately a marketplace failure for Bertram, too expensive. The Dolphin was a great skiff, but the Maverick took shallow water fishing to a whole new, national level.
