John, If you do the layers and the thermals and spend an hour knocking the snow off the roof of the shed from underneath with a long pole you're fingers never get cold but you sweat like a goat and when you get home and take all those layers off it smells like the goat is still in there with you. Co...

It's wet, cold, miserable and my Bride thinks its pretty. http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x54/mikeylikesitnow/P1010005-1.jpg An empty boat house covered in slush ain't pretty. However, it is an "R" month. Got a quart of oysters, got out U.V.'s recipe for Oyster saute and had at it. Damn, that wil...

Define "completely." I have saved every receipt and plan to add them up at the end. Is that brave or what? For me, "completely" meant stripping everything out of the boat and starting over with a bare hull. Is that also brave or just insane? Let you know next summer if I survive the shock . . . and ...

Three old guys comparing the problems of the aging process. The first say, "it's my hearing, even with the aid I can't hear squat." The second say, naw, it my eyesight. John, Welcome to the insanity. I have an express as well with 6BTA's. New side window frames are available from American Marine in Pompano Beach. 954-782-1404. Ask for Jerry or Mike Avery. Good folks. The front ones are a bit trickier. If yours are repairable, do that. If not, try to find ones from ...

Hueso, We will be on Tortola Feb 17 to 24th, then three days in St. Thomas. We usually stay at one of our owner's homes. This year we are staying at Limeberry Villa, a spectacular new house in the Estate which I understand is for sale. http://www.definitivecaribbean.com/accommodation/LimeberryVilla....

Froze my butt off yesterday but had a chance to look over the three VA boats. Did not do a survey but can give you what I saw and heard from Capt. Steve Pope of the VA Marine Police who met me there. My camera came up lame so no pictures, sorry. The sedan (Wicomico) was purchased new and the two fly...

Twenty-five year pin
A friend at the club gave me this pin he had on his fishing hat. Can't remember the origin. Do any of the Faithful remember this? Have a clue?

I agree with Vic for two reasons. If you do it yourself, you know what's in there and can diagnose and maintain yourself. If you get stuck doing it yourself at least now you are an informed consumer and can talk to the mechanics with some intelligence. You are less likely to get your hat handed to y...

Bless all of you for putting up with my inanity and insanity, especially when my broken body would get me down and all of you would pick me up. It reminds me of the story of God walking with a member of the Faithful (His and ours) and showing him footprints in the sand. God said that the two side-by...

Harry, You should see this boat in person. Very Very impressive job. Chiles is anal to the twenty-second power and there are redundancies built in everywhere. Who ever buys this will get a lot of boat for the $$$$$. She's a beautiful fly-bridge cruiser built for the Chesapeake fishing and cruising. ...

Wayne, I put five inch mufflers and pipes outside of the outer stringers with an inch to spare in height. Worked fine. 300 Cummins. Used Cabrera decks which are in three pieces. With the center section out the tank is totally accessible. If you're doing all the work now, why not a new tank in the ba...

Guys, I filled the new 225-gal tank when we set it in the water this summer. Bruce, I don't understand the "If the job was done correctly." I put the Cummins as far forward in the engine compartment as possible and still have enough room to get one hand in to replace belts, barely. She still sits ab...

In the same dilemma. Added Cummins and bigger fuel tank. Advised here to add weight at the bow to counter. The guys on the site are skeptical. Going to try the weight and if that doesn't work raise the water line. Hate to do that because of the look at the chine. If the weight forward raises the ste...

Harv, Harry, May be getting in this game a little late, but have been designing and installing the struts for the hardtop (same as tower). As a child sitting in a restaurant I kept looking from left to right at the entrees and the prices. Suddenly having that feeling that I was being watched I looked up to see my father looking at me with that wry smile. He nodded at the menu and said, "you never know . . . order the lobster." Life's s...
