Re: Lost in the Gulf Stream
Catching up on latest and greatest ideas and comments. Been busy with 31 project, Rv trips, grandkids and a little farming. After reading Bruce’s post it brought back a haunting memory. I think everyone who owns a Bertram has seen the poster/painting with the script “Thank God it’s a Bertram!!” Whic...

I have an original Bertram cluster panel but not sure if it’s chrome complete with gauges. Also have bronze shaft logs, not sure if they will accommodate 1.75” shafts. Currently out of town but will confirm when I return.

Re: Cigarette N A Six Pack
Daniel, one of my best buddies spent two years on the Ingham, thinking 71 - 72. He said they spent a lot of time in the rough ass North Atlantic launching weather ballons and beating ice of the ship with baseball bats! He said he spent a lot of nights strapped in his rack to keep from waking up on t...

Nice fish! Got my taste buds salivating. No bluefin in our hot water in the gulf. Lots of yellowfin in the deeper water around the floating rigs.

Re: Got er’ Done
Started exhaust today. Converting round to oval exits at transom just change it up a bit, wondering if it will sound any different? Mocked up engine compartment to make sure piping fits in as planned. Back in the day I called myself a pretty decent pipe fitter but have no experience with tig. Howeve...

Re: Got er’ Done
Thanks Jason. Where did you get your 6x5” FG 90 degree bend that goes beneath hump hose to change wet exhaust from vertical to horizontal? Just doing some rough measurements it looks like things are going to be tight. You don’t recall what the makeup for that 90 was by chance. IE; end to center.

Finished glass work in cockpit area, strut pads, shaft logs, deck and exhaust supports, grind and fair under gunnels, rod/gaff holders along with something I probably overlooked but minor add later. Might add I am glad that part of resto is in the past. Even though my shop is well ventilated most da...

OK guys, you can pile on now, props came in today. Ordered 20X23 4 blade nibral with medium cup used. Got them from a fellow who was referred to me by a Captain friend of mine that runs a 72’ Viking. Service was great and sales seemed very knowledgeable. FYI, guys name is Brian with Wildcat Propelle...

Re: Engine Dilemma ?
Daniel, you are spot on regarding the upgrades and I was able to find an old post by Bob LIco where he had included the casting numbers on the upgrades. Found numbers and starboard engine has the upgraded head. I suppose at sometime in its life the old one cratered and was replaced. Leaning towards ...

Thanks for the reply Brad. Read the entire thread, sounds like you had a lot of nat sayers till you posted the pics. Pretty impressive. Did you ever calculate your GPH at cruise? Yea Tony, that thought crossed my mind, till I priced them, and may eventually come to that. I’ll find out when I get everything to machine shop. Carl, miked the barrel and it ranges from .234 to .260 wall thickness, old cast bronze struts are pretty rough, IYO is what you’re suggesting doable? That...

https://Imgur.Com/a/ExLOio7 Big day, motors are in. So here is where I’m at. I went by the book trying to change shaft angle to the magic 12 degrees and the only way I can make it work is by moving shaft strut aft by 2”. Then everything lines up, shaft coupler to trans output shaft, shaft to strut, ...

Motor, shaft alignment
Trying to gather all parts required to mock up engines to build motor mounts, (shafts, couplers, struts, etc.) Noticed the output shaft on my new ZF 220 trannies are angled down. My plan was to mount engines as low as possible, allowing more space for fabrication of exhaust, try to reduce shaft angl...

Restoring 31FBC that had gassers. Repowering with Cummins 6BT 300hp and wanting to upgrade to 1 1/2” shafts. Who is best supplier for struts. Or can my old ones be bored to accommodate larger shafts?
