Re: Is That Dug Stowe or did some kid borrow his boat
The black topped bahia mar is Harvs boat. The other bahia mar is Dick Deans boat. The first montauk rendezvous was 2003. Brewster's tattoo was the 2nd montauk rendezvous several years later.

I was on the boat for that as well. I was happy to see the boat back in shinnecock this summer. It belongs there. I also remember Dug saving me from the first Montauk rendezvous at the yacht club. Thanks again Dug.

I remember driving Cormorant Princess back to the Montauk rendezvous after a double overnighter while Brew worked on that Bertram tattoo. GREAT TIMES!!! Patron was buried in the fish hold.

Re: Wishing for warmer days
I have been fortunate enough to be fishing on some big and fast sportsfishing boats lately and the station wagon effect makes the cockpits pretty misty at cruising speeds. We are cruising 30 knots plus and the boats are 60 ft. It must be an engineering nightmare trying to prevent that negative press...

They are the older model cummins and right now they are propped to reach 3000 rpm at WOT.

The boat feels and rides heavy. It is getting 30 knots at WOT with 300hp cummins. 24 knots at 2400 rpm. Depending on how it is loaded. 4 blade dqx wheels.

This is most likely cruising between 22 to 24 knots. Does the running angle/attitude look right?

Those are great numbers. My Dad's 31 Bahia Mar must need to go on a diet. He is not seeing performance specs like that and he is running 300 hp cummins. Have a great season. I will see you on the edge soon. I will be on ZIGGY.

Hi Pete, I can only speak for myself but I think the money is well spent upgrading to the 330s or the qsbs. After running 2 different 31 bertram bahia mars. one with a 22 to 24 knot cruise and the other with a 28 to 30 knot cruise I can tell you that the 31 bertram is an excellent running boat at 26...

Hi Steve,
On my Dad's 1st Bahia Mar he replaced the window with a larger more modern design. That boat is now Dr. Pat's Priceless.
His new bahia mar, Hogie has them filled in.
I hope this helps. Check out the pics on this site for reference

What type of prop would be required to run 27 knots at 2200 rpm and still have a dockable boat?

Re: cummins 370
I would think you could cruise close to 30 knots but you would need trolling valves to make the boat manageable around the dock. My Dad has 300 hp cummins without trolling valves and it is a handful around the marina. He can cruise 26 knots.

I have experience on 2 different bahia mar 31s and would say the visibility on both was excellent. I have also fished on several other Express style boats Albemarle, Topaz, and Henriques and think the bertram is superior. I hope this helps. I will try and post a picture later this week.

I am still fishing predominantly out of Shinnecock NY, while the boat is in Delaware with my father. I will be splitting my time between a 2018 50' Henriques and a 60' Ocean. We have run up to 16 rod spreadson the big boats when in the canyon.

The boat has oversized rudders. And it is well rigged to troll for tuna. The previous owner was a very accomplished canyon fisherman. The first fish this boat killed was 600lb plus mako winning the Oakland shark tournament.

We have caught our fair share of trophy sized striped bass dragging wire. I am the one with the canyon tuna fishing disease but Dad likes nothing more than dragging spoons along the beach. He is really good at it. I think he is just humoring me when we run the 31 to the canyon.

Hello Everyone, Dad's 31 went in the water yesterday without incident. The boat is a 31 bahia mar, that is heavier than most weighing approximately 16,000lbs. 300 hp cummins. She is turning 4 blade DQX wheels I forget the specifics. I believe it is a 2:1 gear. The boat currently gets 3000 rpm at WOT...

I thought it might be fun to start a fishing report thread. I fished yesterday in the Hudson Canyon for a quick day trip onboard a 50 henriques. We caught 4 bigeye tuna and 3 yellowfin. Bigeyes ranged from 100 to 130 lbs. Yellowfin were 60 lb class fish. Tried deep dropping for a sword but no luck.
