Bob, Thanks for the clarity! I too had heard to use only single 30wt oil for the CAT 3116/3126 but not to the detail you explained. My motors are 1998 vintage, so I'm not sure if they have the updated turbo.. so as long as the single wt is working I'll go with that and may give the texaco oil a try ...

Here's a simple trick, you could always try swapping the carbs on the motors, if you swap and the problem follows the carb, have it rebuilt. If not then you can start looking elsewhere.
