Re: 35 Bertram ??
I had a 1975 35 with 300hp 3116 cats in it. I would cruise an honest 23-24 knots. Mine was a little faster than the 300 hp 3208 boats, probably a combo between the lighter engines and not having the bubbles in the bottom needed for the 3208s. Mine being a 1975 had the smaller bridge and I moved the ...

Re: Diesel air filters
John, I like my K&N's on my 6BTA's. I clean them once a year and follow up with a good oiling. I think they pay for themselves in a couple years since you shouldn't have to replace them. Even have one in my wife's car now!

John, You need to use the T1 / single grade in the 3126's and 3116's. As someone else mentioned this is a service bulletin that CAT put our years back. If I remember right, the use of 15w-40 in these engines will clog the aftercoolers overtime and you will also see alot of soot on your transom. I us...

Used the FRP (Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic) sheets that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowes. These are the sheets that you see in some bathrooms and showers, non-skid / bumpy patern on one side, smooth on the back. Make a patern out of paper, and cut the FRP sheet to the patern. Scuff the nonskid si...

SIM, The 350's I have in my boat are Vortek 320 hp's so they turn high RPM. I cruise them at 3300-3400 RPM at 23-24 kts and burn about 22 gph. Those motors are capable (so the manual says) of cruising at 3800. At 3800 it runs 27 kts but I don't know the burn since I never run it their for any length...

I have a set of 300 hp in my 35 Bertram and haven't had a single problem with them. They have a bad rap from people that have no clue as to what they are talking about (mostly poeople on boat diesel). They do love to be tuned every couple hundred hours and it makes a huge difference afterward. Somew...

Their is one in the marina my boat is at in Point Pleasant, NJ. The yard bill hadn't been paid in years and the marina took ownership and is trying to sell it for just about nothing. Cosmeticly it's rough but I know it has a good set of 454's in it. If you are interested let me know and I'll get inf...

For you props, go to www.propscan.com, they have a list of shops using propscan technology around the world. You can probably select a shop and ship the props there. I just used a shop using Prop-scan for the first time and the difference is night and day in comparison to a traditional prop shop. Co...

Yeah, they are 3116's. Mine are the 300hp version and I have 2 to 1 gears. I cruise at about 22kts and burn 19 gph at that speed. My fathers neighbor also has a 35 with 350 hp 3116's and cruises at 24kts. If you buy 3116's just make sure they arn't the French Block. That can be identified by the ser...

John, I'm lucky my 35 is already diesel. $5,000. is a lot of money for a fuel tank but probably worth it since it is fiberglass. This is my oppinion (doesn't mean it's right), I'd rather take that $5,000. + and put it toward a pair of RTO diesels. It seems like their is a lot of good deals on engine...

When I did my boat over I bought a fiberglass windshield insert. The inserts are made of glassed over foam and sprayed with gelcoat and they take the shape of the origional windshield. All you do is take out your origional glass and frame, clean everything up reel well, put the insert in and 5200 it...
