Re: B31 HARD TOP. done with pictures. (need advice)
You may have mentioned before...but looks like your going with outboards, or some very skinny inboards. l like the use of space between the ol' motor box space. Looks good! Just remember securing to the bridge structure firmly with backing plates is a great idea... Provided of course the bridge is ...

Re: B31 HARD TOP. done with pictures. (need advice)
Looks very well done and not too big to be catching a lot of air. However, I would put backing plates behind all points instead of just washer and nut. We do not use aluminum over here (I really have no idea why, we mostly use SS tubing). This past summer one of the four 22 mm tubes that hold my bi...

The boat looks great!
I noticed the steps to the flybridge are through bolted at the top. Do those steps help provide support for the bridge? Might you share how they are anchored on the lower end?
Congratulations.
Stephan
steps are a big support..

thank you all for your replies,
definitely backing plates make a huge difference...
I also will check the flexing of the top itself.
have a good day

B31 HARD TOP. done with pictures. (need advice)
hey y'all Happy New Year everyone, finally my boat is coming together... the last big job is almost done (the hard top). my concern is 1- is the bracing strong enough to withstand years of tough seas? 2- should there have been a ring brace for the hard top to sit on? 3- should I add bracing from the...

Re: B31 Bow soft spot + bottom paint peeling.
Not sure how to send/post pictures Definitely flexing back & forth as heavy weight goes on it (me stepping on the bow) Two main areas opposite each other on the bow facing each other from the window hatch. Had a look and there was no sign of rot. But colour of fiberglass was brown in that area not g...

B31 Bow soft spot + bottom paint peeling.
Hey Ya’ll
Just inspected my Bertram quickly for the first time & I noticed a couple of soft spots on the bow deck & a few areas were the bottom paint was peeling (she was painted 4 months ago)
I am more worried about the soft bow. Can anyone relate?
Thanks

Fez, Welcome to the site! You'll find an abundance of great info on here, and sounds like you now own my old girl! I think Pearson did a outstanding job on her and I'm proud to see she's getting a good home. Any questions you have, ask away. Rocky! thank you for welcoming me, & most importantly tha...

Re: Hard top & bracing question.
I think that is Rocky's ol' boat... Anyway, if going all out on the enclosure maybe re enforce bridge from the gunnels keeping the boats lines. Going from bow doesn't sound like much flowing lines would be happening...and that would be ashame on that boat. Best of luck with her! sounds like the bes...

Re: Hard top & bracing question.
Stunning....I am going to sell all my tools. That boat is gorgeous! LOVE the 300 Evinrudes! 2 strokes rule, baby! If you add two striped white and blue cushions on the engine boxes, one may even think she’s a new 35, so similar and shiny she looks! Enjoy her! That's some beautiful work..... thank y...

Re: 21" gunwale height?
If you really think it is too low, run a rail off the gunnel around the cockpit. I have seen that before on the 31...I do not particularly like the looks or think it is needed, but I am not you. she has that now and i want to get rid of it. i share the same opinion with cockpit rails. not a fan! th...

hello Yannis,
yes it does, I'm shipping it to Liberia West Africa. over here outboards are easier to service, repower, & maintain. there are no boat service shops, nor skilled technicians in the marine industry. Everything has to be shipped in.

Re: 21" gunwale height?
The low gunwale height is an advantage to leadering, gaffing and releasing fish. That is one of the many reasons these are sought after sportsfishing boats (lots of other reasons too). I can get my hand in the water without dangerously leaning over the side, that's what you want if you are bringing...

Re: 21" GUNWALE HIGHT???? NEED HELP
Welcome! That does seem pretty low.... I'm guessing that mine are a little higher than that (though not much). One thing that I did was to scallop the bottom of the side and transom panels, so that you can hook your feet under them. Less likely to get dragged overboard..... thank you!, sounds good ...

hello all, this is my first post! I'm currently purchasing a 31' Bertram sportfish, rebuilt in 2019. the builder resulted with a gunwale height of only 21". i intend to ship the boat to West Africa where we fish a lot of Marlin & Tunas. ive always fished with boats of higher gunwales & leadering an ...
