Head Scratcher
Went to winterize the genny today and found a odd situation. Genny is mounted above waterline, thru-hull and strainer are below water line. Thru hull has an aft facing slotted scoop and is mounted directly to valve and strainer ie: no hose. Hose runs to raw water pump on genny. I closed the valve an...

Glass Install
In the building Tips Capt Pat has a great detail for installing Glazing. I am reglazing to eliminate old leaks and am doing from outside. There is a Black Ceramic Tape indicated in the detail. Any ideas as to where I can source this material? Thanks.

Gen Starting Battery
Not a B31 question but you guys are the experts. Westerbeke 8Kw diesel genset, what is the minimum starting battery spec. I have a space problem and want to go as small as resonable. Battery is dedicated to the genset with its own charger. Thanks for your ideas.

Window Mounting
I read the article in building tips about window mounting and I have a question. When mounting from the outside it says to make sure the glass has a ceramic border that protects the Sika 296 from UV. What to do if the existing glass has no such border, can it be retrofitted and where do you source t...

Bilge paint
I painted my engine room with Awlgrip (Oyster White)3 years ago when I repowered and it looks as good today as when i did it. Even where the bilge stays wet and get dirty cleans up with just a wipe with a sponge. Preparation and application are critical. I cleaned with acetone. Use a powered ventila...

Transducers
Will an older airmar transducer work with the new Garmin digital sounders? Or do I have to replace the transducer with the unit?

Dick, I am not sure if it will work with the 98 Horizon, but Merc has a system called Smartcraft that allows you to display all of the info available onyour Rinda at the bridge. It also displays engine guages and nunerous other thing from available sensors. I think you can use a smartcraft fuel flow...

I also have Rule pumps. I had a Lovett but it stoped working due to the belt slipping and replaced with Rule. I have also added asecond engine room pump to get that last drop. It is a Whale Gusher (220 I think). I have it mounted on the bulkhead with a separte float switch (a litlle lower than the r...

Fuel Tank Sender Question
I am going to install a new sender and have a question. The old sender is an arm type and I want to install a tube type that Capt Patrick recomends. (ISSPRO) I noticed that the there appear to be 2 studs on top instead of the one on my current set up. Is the second one just a ground? If so where to ...

Ron, The root beer I had seemed to be small particulates that mixed quite easily and did not settle out quickly. I left the jar a few days and they settled. My earlier filter change was after very little running, mostly in the bay. not much. THe latest change that I described was after a nasty 4 hou...

It seems as though there are lots of different situations but here is mine. 86 33sf, new fuel injection gas engines (120 hours) have had three fill ups with ethanlol this summer (probably 800 gals total) , changed filters. Racor on the generator fully clogged and stopped the genny. Mercs have an int...
