Re: Bertram 31 1970 original rudders
I believe they are the shark's fin style. They are curved at the top near the post.

Re: Battery advice
I am upgrading the electrical system on a 1970 Bertram 31 Sportfisherman. It has 502 gas big block engines with 100 amp alternators. I moved the starting batteries to center bilge area which are Optima 34M 800 cold cranking amps AGM batteries. The starting batteries have a 10 amp 3 stage charger for...

Re: Potential 454 Replacement?
Chuck, Do you have more information on your setup? trans ratio, prop pitch x diameter, measured fuel burn? My goal is a reliable, 24-knot cruise, at 1mpg. My goal this winter is to get the old 454s back into shape with fuel monitors, and see how attainable that may be. I miss stated the WOT speed -...

Re: Potential 454 Replacement?
I just purchased a 1970 Bertram 31 Sportfish this spring that had new old stock Mercruiser carbureted 502 Magnum engines (black motors) installed in 2016. Supposedly rated at 400-420 HP. It is currently over propped as I only get 4250 rpm at WOT at 47 mph. Buying new props this winter to bring the W...

Re: New Bertram 31 Owner - What Insurance Companies?
Received quotes from Haggerty, American Modern, Progressive and Geico(Boat US). Went with Geico, agreed value policy under $900 - covers US waters and Great Lakes. (Bahamas is extra)
Thanks for all the input.

New Bertram 31 Owner - What Insurance Companies?
New owner of a 1970 Bertram 31 Sport Fish and am looking for insurance company options. What do others use? I have quotes from Boat US and Haggerty.
I will have a lot of questions in the near future once I get the boat shipped home.
Thanks,
Charlie
