Re: Convertible Dinette Custom Tackle Cabinet
HMS Hound has a counter that runs the full length of the starboard cabin, from the mid-ship bulkhead to the v-berth bulkhead. Since the boat is a Sportfish model the head is up in the v-berth. There are cabinets underneath the counter with lots of storage and there is an ice chest built into the cou...

Re: A friend's B31 build
Great work! One thing I have never seen before looks like a modification to the stringers. It looks to me like the stringers by the mufflers have been stepped down/reduced. This seems to make the muffler placement easier, but I wonder what the guys who know something about structural engineering/arc...

Re: A little boat in a big tournament
I have had the privilege of fishing with JP a few times and the prep, focus and knowledge he puts in is second to none. Plus the food is always great and the refreshments are, well, always refreshing. The best part is being on Chimera—what a ride! The only problem is that the experience is always so...

Check out Wikipedia "Law of Salvage." Best as I can tell the industry/insurers recognize boats on land that float away in a flood as subject to salvage.

Re: Sandy claws left me a mess
Around here boats floated all over the place. The guys I know who collected them were able to make a salvage claim. I would call one of the tow boat services and see if they can help. If the boats have an insurer it is usually worthwhile for the person claiming salvage.

Dug- I did mine last winter and used the Holmesy insert. There is a local man here in NJ who hauls boats back and forth to Florida and he picked up the insert for me at a very reasonable price. No crating was necessary. The insert was a huge upgrade. No leaks, solid, tight, looks great. You should a...

I tried a different approach with a 600 watt "Extreme Heater" under the deck between the engines. It has worked out great. Been using the boat all winter and the diesel motors start right up with minimal smoke. This would likely keep a generator warm too.

It does seem plausible that a compromise from a buoy strike at just the right place could cause the whole thing to blow apart—especially when the boat is blasting through the water, bouncing on and off waves at 30 kts being pushed by two thousand horsepower. The Coast Guard or whatever agency is i...

I stopped at the yard today and took a good look at the strakes on HMS Hound (old style) & Chimera (new style), which are side by side so easy to compare. It seems to me like the strakes on Chimera are thicker and have more area. This might account for the extra knot of speed, my theory is more lift...
