Re: Understanding Sea Condition Forecasts

What I've learned in 50 years of offshore fishing and 40 years of flying is any forecast that is more than 24 hours old is not accurate. I like 24 hours for fishing and 8 hours for flying. I still check both immediately before I launch. BTW, forecast are OK but for real-time conditions, I like to ch...

But that's comparing a "New Boat" to a "57 Year Old Boat". In my case a "60 Year Old Boat"...crazy ! ? ! ? Me, if I had 500K for a boat, it would look alot different than a 31CC or a 31 Bertram. I used to go to Boat shows making believe I could have any boat I wanted free and clear. All I'd have to...

Re: Trim Tab Project

I like mine (Bennett). If mine fail, I would replace them. I pick up a knot or two at cruise and definitely makes for a more comfortable ride in a chop. Easy to level the boat vs yelling at the crew to shuffle ice chests. But better be in the up position if backing down on a fish -- they will rip r...

Re: Trim Tab Project

I posted a couple of years ago about adding tabs to my 31. The consensus at the time was they were not needed. I'm still leaning towards installing them while everything is torn apart if nothing else to level the ride in cruise. Any help with fuel economy would be a huge plus.

I know a little about things that spin and harmonic balance. It would seem to me that placement of a zinc on the shaft would have some effect on the balance and tune of the shaft. I do know that vibration is bad. Zincs are certainly not machined to be balanced. This thread has me thinking that placi...
