I was told to use the Vulcan Torflex damper for the 4LHA to ZF 63a on my install. 7 years and nearly 1000 hours and still quiet at idle speed. Not sure what part number or what I paid though. I'm sure Bruce would know the details.

Re: Prop Question
Well, I had the 170 DTE's prior to repowering with the 240's. Had Hurth 1.5 to 1 630a's and 18 x 16 Nibral "DynaJets" I believe with a slight cup. Maxed out at about 3400 rpm and cruised it at 2900. But that only got me 18 kts with the same fuel burn as the 240's doing 22 knots. I guess at 18 kts th...

Re: Prop Question
I have the 240 Yanmars in my B28 with 1.5 to 1 ZF63a's and run DJX 18 x 18 props with a #3 cup. Max rpm is 3425 and I choose to cruise 2750 at 25 mph (22 kts). Get consistently 2 stat miles per gallon. I've been running the DJX's since the repower in 2006 so can't compare them to other props, but I ...

Re: Solar panel on B28
It sounds like the combination of cold plate technology and a 12 volt compressor is best suited for your use. You can charge your battery bank via solar panels, portable generator or propulsion engine depending on what you are doing that day. Bruce would know better than I as to how long the compres...

Re: Solar panel on B28
I have chartered several sail boats that use the cold plate technology. In the earlier years, the aux engine had a compressor just like an automobile A/C that froze the plates. There were two very well insulated boxes, one a freezer and the other a cooler. The later years had a 12v compressor. Eithe...

Hey John It has been a while. I do as you do and minimize my power needs. Pretty much everything is 12 volts except the air conditioner and microwave. The big draw is the old Norcold. I do the ice chest thing for weekend trips, but when we go for a week or two, I use the fridge. I only use the Honda...

The SeaPower unit from MEPS is great for A/C power while under way or for short periods at anchor, but the best addition I made for cruising was a Honda EU2000i generator. It only weighs 45 lbs, I stick it out on the swim platform when in use and connect it directly into the boat's 30 amp inlet by m...

Ernest, I get 22 kts at 2800 rpm burning about 12 to 13 gals total. 1990 28 FBC Yanmar 240's. The add is wrong.

If you operate the boat in salt water, definitely rig up a fresh water flush that is user friendly as the others have mentioned and use it. Also, make sure your engine bay hatches and gutters are sealed and hoses from the gutter go down into the bilge. Keep the salt water off of those new engines. E...

Careful, those engines are rated at 4000 rpm. I've read that the new electronic governors won't rev much over rated like the mechanical ones do. On a mechanical engine, it is recommended to prop around 150 rpm over rated with a fully loaded boat. So at 4000, you may be underpropped. But if you do ad...

The rattling at or near idle speed is ususally the torsional dampener between the engine and the transmission. ZF went to a Vulkan Torflex dampener a few years back that eliminated the rattle. You might consider a very simple mechanical type jack plate to raise the height of the engine.
