Stephan,

Seconded on Formica or silimar hard laminate. Use epoxy to laminate for exterior use. The edges can radiused and be glassed over wtih a couple of layers of epoxy and veil. Hard laminate readily takes paint after a good sanding and primer coat of 545.

If the firing order is different than you do have right and left hand engines. Use that to determine which of the spare engines is ther one you want...

The counter rotation is done by the transmission. All of your 454 engines are right hand turn....

Frank, I really can never understand the concern about transom hardware cutting off fish... It's the job of the helmsman to NOT let the fish near the transom and the job of the mate/angler to keep the fish to one side or the other of the boat when the fish is nearing the point of bringing it on boar...

Actually the B30, a Napier design, doesn't have the window configuration of the B31. They are fixed rather than being able to open or easily removed. Basically Polyester resin based "bondo type" body filler with chopped fiberglass strands in it. Made by Evercoat and can't be used over epoxy. Bob, sure hope you didn't....

What are your thoughts on side exhaust with or with out surge tubes? seems to be a point of debate. I personally don't like side exhaust... But if you do go that way, make solid flares on the forward half to deflect water flow when in forward gear at less than planning speed. Water flowing directly...

Rick, The engines are the 4 banger Yanmars so exhaust system is 4", so didn't need to raise the deck, (muffler diameter is 9.06"). I'm no mechanic, but it sounds like maybe a pressure plate problem. Since you haven't had the transmission off of the engine, it might be time to seperate them and inspect everything. Bad springs, plate frozen to flywheel, etc...
