Welding cable is actually a higher quality than standard cable of the same size. Standard cable has less strands and is thereby stiffer due to the individual strand size. For that short run, #2 is fine.
OK, Guys, I'm thinking of cabinetry design in the cabin of the B31. One thing that keeps popping into my mind is the galley sink. I've fished aboard a bunch of B31s, spent 2 nights on one in leiu of a high dollar hotel room, and visited & worked aboard many of 'em. Other than as a systems check for ...
I gotta' agree with the others, it just ain't so... On average, adult males are about 7 feet (2.1 m) long weighing 200 pounds (90 kg). Adult females are about 11.5 feet (3.5 m) long weighing 500 pounds (230 kg). A 14 footer would be a world record for sure, but staring down on a 10 foot shark would ...
Bruce, Depending on the depth of the dent & hardness of the wood, you can sometimes steam out a dent. Depending, also, on the finish, (varnished, shellacked, painted), you may have more problem refinishing the spot than just leaving the dent. For unfinished wood it's pretty simple. Use a wet wash cl...
You'd only need to lay an epoxy base over any wood, especially bare wood. Even that might not be necessary if you lay down at least two good coats of epoxy primer, (Awlgrip 545).
Chuck, Good hearing from you Buddy! From your description, I'd say your value is at or above $150K but in the current flat market it might be hard to get that... The good thing you have going for you is the diesel power. There are still those looking for good clean and well maintained B31s like your...
Le, "Buddy Boy" was professionally sprayed with Emron... It was an expensive job because of the prep, masking, and complex nature of shooting in a very small and complicated area. Over spray is going to be a problem & the V-bert and main cabin need to be shot seperately. You do need to add a flateni...
Kevin, Replacing the packing while in the water isn't that hard. It can be a little disconcerting the first time you do it but there will actually be less water intrusion during the job than if you were repacking a propulsion shaft. The trick is to have all your ducks in a row before even loosening ...
John, The easy answer is tug captains are pros & not weekend warriors. Also, tugs rarely stray into shallow water and are moving pretty slow even if they do. So the real crux of the matter is that these drives, (kind'a what UV was saying), is that they aren't necessarily a good choice for recreation...
Am I correct then in assuming that the later years 28's are as negatively affected by ethanol as the earlier ones? Therefore a re-tank job will be a given at some point in the not-to-distant future regardless of the year of the boat?
Stu, The main difference is the height of the tanks. The older 173 gal tank is about a 2" - 3" lower profile than the 223. Worst case scenerio is you'd need to build up the deck supports so that you'd have a proper clearance over the tank & trim the tops of the side/transom panels. There would also ...
Cutaway, Welcome aboard! Depends on where in TX you'll be boating. Currently and in most cases, ethanol is being distributed according to areas of high population density. So the Houston/Galveston area is getting the corn, but smaller areas like Port Aransas isn't. That's not to say that if your are...
John, Steve Moyer, ( keysdisease ), is the Manager of the Ft Lauderdale Soundown Location and will probably kick in a reply... The main operation & factory is in Salem, MA and the material can be purchaed directly from them. Their website, with product info, is at http://soundown.com/AI.htm . Br, Pa...
Guys, I just received news that Capt. Dave Kosh has been diagonosed with advanced cancer of the liver and lower esophagus.... Dave is a hellva' nice guy and one of our own, living in Ft. Now click on the "Edit" botton of your post of the images & you'll see how I edited it to bring them into a vertical line... You don't need to do any more editing, so just click the back button on your browser.
Randy, Think you may be complicating it.... (Read again my original post above...) In PhotoBucket, I think that they supply with several URLs. One of which will be the URL that identifies the image that you are looking at, (not the thumbnail page). Copy that URL (should be something like http://phot...
John, Carl, in my opinion, has shot you a load of BS on this one... The coaming configuration, as it lands on the Bahia Mar fore deck, is totally different than for the SF, FBC, or Express. There would be considerable re-designing of the cap after cutting out the Bahia Mar coaming, before a stock ho...
John, Been wondering where you were hiding... Of the 4 basic models of the B31, the Bahia Mar is certainly the most unique with only the hull being in common with the others... I don't see any way you can, at least staying with classic lines, modify the Bahia Mar into a flybridge model. A least not ...
It's a far more rare occurance inside of a tank than on a hull bottom, but it does happen. I've seen minor blistering in the bottom of one B31 tank, but because the process is very slow to worsen, it presented no short or medium range concern...
was because of blistering on the interior of the old tanks...and this is a Diesel boat and prior to Ethanol. Go figure Peter, Blistering is not necessarily restricted to, or a result of ethanol. Blistering is the result of excess styrene in the layup not having resin molecules to cross link to. Sty...
Dan, The pros and cons of stainless tankage has been an ongoing topic over the past year or so... The bottom line is: 1. The tank needs to be fabricated by a certified shop. Both certified by USCG for tankage & certified by AWS . 2. Using proper TIG welding/fusing techniques , the days of the weld c...
Allen, I believe that Tony means the old bulletin board, which was archived, but still searchable: http://www.bertram31.com/bb/bbs.cgi?noframes Specifically, hull number I.D. can be seen at: http://www.bertram31.com/bb/bbs.cgi?noframes;read=62666 Early to mid '60s models will generally have a piece ...
Dan, At least three of the Faithful run charters in Hawaii. All fishing trips are potentially just a boat ride. Why they call it fish'n not catch'n.... Capt. Looking real good & I know you'll be happy to get her back into the water. Thanks for being one of our defenders!
You going to try and make the Alantic City Rendezvous this year? I know that all the guys ther would love to meet you in person and get a tour of "Super Mex".
Glad to hear that you're on the mend and ready to start scaling ladders! Just be careful and don't push yourself too hard. In my estimation, up & down ladders is one of the most tiring tasks.
Any good marine canvas shop or online through multiple sites. Dave Mehem, (seacanvas), is one of the Faithful and has access to it. seacanvas@comcast.net
