You most assuredly need to glass over the plywood. Preferably a layer of at least 1/16". Wood is going to expand & contract, without the fiberglass to stabilize it, it's going to check & crack through the epoxy & paint.

Your mechanic is correct in recommending the 2:1 ratio over the 1.5:1...

With the 2:1 you'll get the full advantage of the torque available from this engine & allow you to swing a larger prop. Bottom line: Much better performance...

Frank,

The teak piece at the bottom is just a channel the the panel rests into. It's part of the lower teak assembly & doesn't get removed. Remove the screws at the transom corners & the screws up under the coaming & the panel will lift up & out.

Mat side always down... The mat, which is only 3/4 oz, acts as a filler layer between the woven layer to improve adhesion & help exclude air entrapement. If you want the final top surface to be mat texture, do a last layer in mat only, using 1 1/2 oz.

Harry, The shafts should have a toe in configuration, but you can adjust them outboard a slight amount so that the shaft will just skin by the outboard face of the rudders when admidship.
