Windlass motor wiring question
Hi everyone, I am currently re-wiring my b31. The windlass has 2 wires, and connected to a relay where I can control up and down via a toggles switch. I guess the up and down reverses the current going to the motor. Do I need 2 circuit breakers? on both the positive and negative leads? This is how i...

Re: Propellers
Tony hi, Thanks for that info! I am guessing you have 3-blade and 1.56:1 reduction? I think I should max out at around 30kts. I think my boat is super-light as well (you can see pics from the topic more-than-I-bargained-for Restoration), I am going to have it weighed soon as well. As you correctly s...

Re: Propellers
I know that there have been many posts and discussions on this subject, but I guess it is rocket science.... These are the readings of the performance of my B31 last year. 2x300HP Yanmar, 2:1 reduction, 4 blade 18.5x18.5, 1/2 load (fuel and water). RPM KTS 1000 5.3 1400 7.1 1800 8.6 1900 8.9 2000 9....

Re: Another anchor wuestion
Tony hi, As Yiannis says, if you have a windlass its a game changer... I just oversize the anchor. I have 85m (280ft) of 8mm chain and a 45lb (20kg) chinese delta (US$80). There is very little chance of it bending, and will hold very well with about 30m of chain with its weight only. http://i410.pho...

Re: More-than-I-bargained-for Restoration
The cockpit/engine box seating I think is rare, I haven't seen it on any other B31's. The flybridge is a bit of a mystery.... I think it was added/changed at some point...

More-than-I-bargained-for Restoration
I am posting a few pics of the restoration that I did last year and is still on-going. Seems endless! Comments welcome! Battered Bertram.... abandoned for 3 years after coming loose from her mooring http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp181/matlos1/Miss%20Me/IMG_20150307_164648_1024_zpsxzzr15ua.jpg h...

Re: 1988 54' Bertram
Longfin hi, I have a bertram 54 '86 model. This was fitted with 900HP 12v71's, tuned up by key power, so 1,050 HP from 12v92's sounds about right... I don't know about the '88 model, but on mine I had issues on the air intake to the engine room resulting in v. high exhaust gas temperature leading to...

Re: Over-flowing Head Problem....
Sounds like a solution... Do you reckon both pipes (inlet and outlet) need to have a loop, or just the inlet and a flapper valve on the outlet?

Re: Over-flowing Head Problem....
The top of the bowl is at the waterline... Piping is below waterline. There is no siphon, and there is not much room for one unless I pass it into the chain locker like pete suggested in a previous post, but that's not going to be easy. Let me know if you have any good ideas!

Re: Over-flowing Head Problem....
Tony hi again, Ok, so you have an enclosed head, with loop, going to the holding tank, and check valve from the holding tank back to the head... slightly different. Mine is between the fwd berths. So the only way to form the loop is probably in the chain locker.... I will go for the flap/check valve...

Re: Over-flowing Head Problem....
Tony hi,
I read that the check valves can get clogged and may not be the best option... have you experienced anything similar?
Pete, thanks for you suggestion. May be worth checking.
Mat

Over-flowing Head Problem....
I have a '63 b31 SF which has the head in the cabin between the berths. I recently installed a new electric head, and plumbing. While at rest, the water level in the bowl slowly rises and dribbles over the edge of the bowl.... It just drips, so its not necessarily dangerous, and I just open and clos...

Hi Yianni,
Call me when you see this on 6944356937..... I haven't seen you in about 15 years so running across you here is a pleasant surprise! You haven't changed (looks...) and your boat looks messy (as always)! Filia, Mat
