Repairing rotten core in Glass Tech deck hatches
Well, since this site is all about helping each other, this will detail how I'm repairing my deck hatches that were cored with end grain balsa. The problem: my aftermarket Glass Tech fibergalss deck was installed in the early 90's shortly before I became the Steward of AJ. There are 6 hatches, all h...

The wiring harnesses are neglected as "sealed" and zero maintaince, but they are not. Once salt water gets inside the plugs, it eats up the copper -both the pins in the plugs and the wire itself - in short order. I've had many problems with my Cummins harnesses, just simple stuff like the plugs gett...

They will flip over the right way on the first or second rev every time, don't worry about installing them "in the correct direction". Use Pam or Dawn as a lube unless you are using the Tony Athens aftermarket ones, they can take oil, so use CX on them. And put some Tef Gel on the shaft. A little ca...

Shoot Doug, the SC is a blur.....you need to drop about an inch and a half to 2" pitch to get to 2650 is my guess......AJ is linear, rpm to kts from about 1800 up......look for 24 kts at 2400 and about 27 at 2650 and you are there......2400 all day long. 21x22 three blade nibrals, no cup, 1.53 gears...

Cummins for example, does not have the dipstick tube going to the bottom. Best bet is to get an adapter that replaces the oil pan plug and attach a hyd hose to it, wire tie it to the top of the engine, and use a big flexible impeller pump to suck the oil out. I can suck 16 qts of oil out of the Cumm...

Doug, next let's test the WOT out of gear....you should get about 2900, & that's a good test of your throttle linkage. If no black smoke at WOT and only getting 2250 - the SC is a heavy boat with that tower, maybe borrow some 20x20's and see what that does....you gotta hit 2600 + or something is not...

Doug, glad you are back in. We did have a big time in Panama for sure. First, what kind of speed are you getting at 2250? Should be about 22 kts, if more maybe the tachs are off, easy to check with a photo tach. For sure check to make sure you are getting full throttle travel. I have the same props,...

Time will tell if they are worth fooling with. When I got my little Vulva 4 banger diesels for the B25 in 1984 I was also impressed they had virtually no hoses, all metal pipes. Jack - Andre's suggestion is a good first place to start. If you have ever blown up a Sherwood pump impeller the little pieces will lodge downstream in the coolers.
