Tropic Star Lodge in Panama runs 15 B31s with 4-53s (and one with Yannies). They put about 2,000 hours a year on them and rebuild at 6,000 hours. Head of maintaince down there told me he keeps the governors set at about 100 hp and the captains run them wide open, none of the boats have tachs. Bring ...

Bruce - are we here that much better than the average boat people? I'll never forget that night on the dock at Port Eads when you fixed Mr. Pee Wee's a/c on his huge Choy Lee blue boat in a flash, and a couple of days later honed my crappy Sherwood raw water impeller cams to keep them from chewing u...

Well, back from a week in the sun at Miami Beach with the Bride, great weather, great antique show and flea markets. Seems I missed a lot here, a lockdown, etc. I usually don't read the Wall St. Journal, but after the Bride marched me about 150 miles thru the show for 6 days, yesterday I sat on the ...

I used the 1" with the lead sheet - did the interior of the motor boxes on AJ, not the wings or bulkhead. Made a huge difference, mostly in the turbo whine, cut it all the way out. An added bonus is the heat trnasfer is all but eliminated, no burned butts sitting on the boxes. I don't think Soundown...

Nope, you can't just bolt on stuff and get the hp up, it's a balanced deal that involves the pistons, cam, injector pump volume, etc. The 4BT 150 hp is gonna disappoint you on speed, but if you prop them to turn 2650 rpm with a full load they will run for 50 years at whatever speed they will make, a...

Roger what Bruce says...the 6B's are very robust engines, but certain models had issues with blowing holes in pistons, ruining blocks, etc. Unless its a give-away price - like a "free" puppy or kitten, hire someone from a Cummins place to take a look. Many of us have discussed re-introduction of the B31 with senior management of Bertram (s...
