Re: Recommendation for marine services in So Cal.
Call Gustavo Cueves (562) 500-5706 Most likely he will come to you. He did my 31 "Fortuna" at Sunset Aquatic a few years ago. If you don't like your money I can recommend several yards in Newport, that said I had Basin Marine do my struts, backing plates, etc. the whole enchilada more than 10 years ...

Re: 31 bertram with 210 hp cummins
I have a 1975 Fly Bridge Sport Fish with 210 Cummins. My boat is Fairly Light, no tower, Glass Tech Deck and a Glass Tech windshield insert. I have Twin Disc 5011A Gears that are 1.52:1 I believe. These Gears are shit by the way. My Props are Michigan Wheel Dynajet 20" X 20" 3 blade with a Number 4 ...

Re: Need Ideas: Wind Screen on Bridge
I think it looks great. I have the factory windscreen that does nothing but deflect the wind and spray right at my face ! Other than having a reverse Venturi which I think looks awful you have very few choices. Your existing windscreen might not be sexy but I would sure trade with you in a second in...

Be very careful using Sunset Aquatic, double check their work for anything below the waterline.

I used Alex as well, I'm on the West Coast so my choice was somewhat geographic driven. I had zero problems with his quality, the bent piece for the bow section is obviously critical and the fit was spot on. Alex is also a really nice guy and has good sage advice. I also bought the stainless steel h...

Re: Head Rebuild Help
I thought you were doing a Diesel repower ? I just went through a similar experience with the 12V92's in my 54. 4 of the 8 cylinder heads were bad at the injector tube. No new Detroit heads available fortunately they are the same heads as 6V92's. I'm pretty sure BBC heads are pretty prevalent, they ...

Re: 1988 54' Bertram
Thanks for the reply's. The motors are 1050 HP Non DDEC completely mechanical. I did a sea trial yesterday, snotty weather blowing pretty well and some wind chop and I was truly amazed at the ride. Anybody that has ever called a 31 a wet boat clearly hasn't been on a 54 ! The boat was 65,000 lbs. in...

Hey I could use some opinions. I've been on this site since pretty close to the beginning, long enough to remember Uncle Vic way before Katrina ! I've owned my 31 since 2003 extensively refit the boat about 5 years ago and she has served us really well. My kids are grown up and I'm just beginning to...

I have fished with Picante a few times a year since the 90's and as recently as August. First class operation very nice Cabo fleet and captains and mates that get it done! They have a couple new Mag Bay CC's that are the "Cats Ass" . Good people, flawless gear, impeccable boats.

Re: Need suggestions.. Going to look at 31 Bertram tomorrow
I remember when the boat was put together about 2002. The motors were installed by Bosuns locker in Costa Mesa, CA they are 6LP's. For some reason I think one of them ate a valve early on. She was for sale for a very long time in Newport Beach, price was insanely high at the time like $155K. Honestl...

Re: Holding tank in the V-berth
I have my Vacuflush pump and vacuum tank in the V-berth and the holding tank and Macerator outboard of the STB motor. There is zero smell which is one of the reasons I went with the Vacuflush in the first place because I wanted a fresh water head. The only time the Y-Valve is in the tank position is...

Re: Windows
Hi John I live in Newport as well, my boat "Fortuna" is behind my house on Northstar in the back bay. Several years ago I embarked on a fairly massive restoration including replacing the side windows with those obtained from Broadus Rose. My job may have been a little easier because at the same time...

Re: Maui fishing
I have fished with "Start Me Up Sportfishing" several times with great success. They run Yanmar powered Black Fin 29's good clean boats run by good guys. That time of year you are looking at a mixed bag of everything from Tuna, Wahoo, Dorado or Mahi, and of course Marlin. You will most definitely se...

Re: DC Wiring during Repower
Short answer is yes you should have a breaker for each engine. You will have start stop switches or buttons, or even a key switch at the helm and the panel breakers provide power for that circuit.

Pull it at Balboa Boat Yard they have a kick ass telescoping crane that will do it with the boat in the water, I think Dave at Basin Marine has one as well.

Hi I have a 1975 Fly Bridge Cruiser that we are just starting a significant refit on later this month.
