Re: Oil for ZF 63A

Gearboxs are not as cheap as oil, my suggestion is to call an Authorized ZF dealer and ask them. Its the cost of a phone call. Best answer, they say not a problem, the worst answer you have to change your fluid. If they are unsure...my suggestion is you change the fluid. I say this as moving forward...

Your right Frank, but a step up from the 63A gears is the ZF220's and those 15w-40 IS the recommended fluid.

What that means...I don't know.

I have the same exact issue and, what's worse in my case, water seeps right through the limber hole which is exactly under the main bulkhead and lets it go through into the cabin bilge and as a result all the way to the deepest point of the boat which is in the galley area. Older boats running 1:1 trans on gas motors with 1-1/4 shafts had short, sleek 10 degree struts allowing a 15inch wheel. These struts had no beef to open for larger shafts. The others had the longer 15 deg struts allowing the boat to turn a more efficient larger diameter wheel. These came through wi...

If not too snug on the shaft that should work. The downside is your pushing with a single rod. Plus a 3/4" nut is most likely 10 threads per inch course or 16 fine. Using the smaller coupler size bolts, your most likely looking at a 7/16" bolts that are 14 threads per inch course or 20 threads per i...

Re: Limber Holes Yes/No w/New Engine Beds

I believe it is like car emissions, "new" boats cannot have limber holes at the engine beds that flow into the bilge. This regulation is to contain oil, fuel, or antifreeze leak in the closed compartment. Limber holes would allow fluids to flow into the bilge where they can be discharged overboard. ...

Looking great! It won’t be long now…. Just do me one favor, go easy on those throttles when powering up. You have AOT of boat with LOTS of torque that will be HOOKED up with 4 blade Nibral wheels. That can be read as you have no buffer on those 1-3/8” shafts and they are being pushed to their limits.
