Thanks Vince, that does make fabrication a whole lot less complex while keeping weight down, I like it.

Your cost may be just for painting PLUS the cost of the paint. I use Micron Extra w/biolux, cost is 170/gal. I add a touch of their Special thinner and get two coats from a can. Little if any problems the past few seasons and the guys at my marina get loaded with barnicles, slime and grass. I usuall...

Interesting post, I will be watching as one complaint I always seem to get is the fumes are killing me... cough... cough... once a person starts, it becomes a chain reaction and I want to toss them all off the boat. Not running on many boats with side exhaust makes it hard to make an educated guess,...

I would think it over a bit more before hanging outboards on the transom. What would be the advantage over a pair of 318 or 350 gas inboards. Not price or installation ease, not fuel consumption, the look and feel of the boat would not be comprimised so you would be able to sell the boat relatively ...

Stu, I decided to foam in place to evenly distribute the enoumous tank load between the hull and tank. I thought about not using foam but when I ran the numbers I just could not see going any other way. Plus it secured tank in place. I would rather have tank rot out and leak then burst open or compr...

Bottom of my tank is contoured to the hull except for the very base which I made flat for aproximately 10-12 inches, so when installed it is several inches off the keel and would allow water to flow underneath. The tank is also sitting on 1/2" strip to keep off hull side. The hull bottom has that wa...

Hot dip galvanize as mentioned may a simple and cost effective method, you'll probly have to drill weep holes in tubes though. I wonder about the Coal Tar epoxy I used to coat the fuel tank? From what I read about it the stuff is supposed to be extremely durable in the worst conditions (engine room).

A few points I can add, If you do tab, it should only be to restrict movement as the tank should be supported from underneath. Not sure if I read correctly or not, but worth mentioning. You do not want to put a fitting in the bottom of a gas tank. A suction tube extending down to the very bottom is okay. Its some Coast Guard thing to prevent blowing up if the fitting should leak. No fitting and the fitting can't leak, 100% ...

If whaler1777 can take out 6V53T's from a 31, I can put 6V53's in, correct. Didn't think they fit so never looked, thought the 4v53 was the only old Detroits that fit. So why shouldn't I put them in.
