Can someone explain why Bertram installed two battery switches in my B31? I am using two batteries for two engines and it seems one switch would do.
If someone has the answer, can you also describe the proper wiring hook up. Are there any schematics on the web?

Thanks Walter and Capt Patrick I will take your advice and cross my fingers that I am not frozen. I do use Marvel both in the crankcase and at tank fill ups. That may be why the engines survived as long as they did. I also used fogging oil when winterizing. My auto mechanic said that he used transmi...

Start up with new aluminum tank
Ok can us some advice from those who have been there before. I waited probably one year longer than I should have and finally replaced my tank with aluminum. I fished last year until December and the engines were still running with an occasional backfire and lower RPM. I winterized it with Stable an...

new transducer and dead rise
I am replacing and old through hull transducer, located aft of the starboard engine and near the center line. I am looking at an Airmar B164 through hull flush mount. They come in three dead rise angles, 0,12,20.
0 is out but I ask is 12 or 20 best suited for this location?
Thanks

Replacement oil prssure gauge.
I need to replace an old Stewart Warner 80 Psi gauge and I guess they are no longer in business. Does anyone know of a source? In checking the internet, the closest I could find was a VDO gauge # 350-303. Same white on black and stainless bezel.

Thank you Tony. I could not find any numbers stamped on the boat. The numbers I posted were typed in the owners manual. The technical data sheet listed 315-1198. Another sheet, titled Data sheet, listed 215-122-1198. This sheet was partially filed in and allowed the first owner to write in his infor...

Hull numbers
I have read several explanations of hull numbers but found two numbers in the original owners paperwork
315-1198
315-122-1198
I have a flybridge and believe it was build around 1972
From these numbers can you confirm.

Thanks for the two responses. First, I believe the chase is so tight that I cannot try to put anything through without removing the old cables. Second the existing cables are so old that the numbers cannot be read. I am surprised that with a board as large as this, that someone has not needed to rep...

Shift and throttle cable length (Starboard side)
I have an original configured 72 Bertram and replaced throttle and shift cables on the port side several years ago. It is now time to do the starboard side and I am hoping someone may know the right length for the shift and throttle cable. I plan to use supreme red jacket cables. I know that I can p...

Vintage question
Please look at PDF "Important News for Boat Owners" found at EthanolRFA.org. One interesting point is that "general epoxy or polyester resin based materials used in the late1970's and earlier 1980's are not compatible with gasoline/ethanol blends." These tests apparently were done on underground tan...

Two battery switches
I have a 72 with 454 Crusaders two batteries and two battery switches. No one I have asked can explain why two switches. Both are on-off-both. I have left them both swithced on both. If anyone knows I would appreciate some help. Also if there is a good reason for two switches a proper wiring suggest...
