How to install a stern drain plug?
Since my drain plug is located under my battery shelf and my B28 typically gets blocked stern down I'm thinking this would make my life a lot easier. Do you just drill a hole and 5100 something like this in? http://www.attwoodmarine.com/userfiles/images/attwood-old/7553.jpg I'm thinking I've seen so...

Fall oil change
I store my 28 about a 5-10 minute idle from the dock. In the past I've taken it over there, changed the oil, then winterized the engines once its blocked. It would be more convenient to change my oil at my dock. Then run it over for storage at my convenience, probably have my wife follow me in the W...

Hope I'm not boring you guys w/ my progress reports..... Checked the batteries today. The port side was at 10.5 despite two days of trickle charging. The starboard side, which I had held out hope for was also at 10.5, but I had left it connected to power the bilge pump. Pulled the batteries, I'll ha...

Starboard side blew up in June and was replaced. Now it seems to be the problem child again, while the old port battery is holding its own. On the starboard side I have upgraded a loose undersized connector that I didn't do a very good job on in the spring. I'm pretty sure it is one of (+) leads fro...

Detective work continues. Disconnected the port side, charged it at 40 amps for 90 minutes this afternoon. Came back at 5:00 and it was back down to 10.5. Jump started the engines, both alternators putting out 13.7, good. Turned off both engines, starboard restarted, port clicked. Turned on charger,...

Battery problems persist
A couple months ago I had a battery blow up: http://bertram31.com/newbb/viewtopic.php?p=54415&highlight=#54415 I replaced the battery and chalked it up to not checking the fluid level in the spring. Last week the boat would not start (low batteries). Checked the fluid level and the old battery was f...

It sounds like a lower helm makes sense for you. A bridge enclosure works fine of course but is a PITA if you like to run with a bimini only. Which is why I've settled on a bimini + helm cover and just count on donning a slicker and getting wet if it rains. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/ste...

Two recent foul ups, your thoughts and suggestions are welcome. Before fueling up I was pouring diesel fuel additive into my tank. I need to replace several of these deck hatch drain fittings. Are they for sale anywhere? Are they easily made w/ a ball bearing and a big hammer? Is there some other fitting that has superseded these? Thanks as always for your help. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/steveziv/28%20Bertram/DSC_0...

Locating and venting a portable A/C unit
A previous thread (and my first mate's encouragement) got me thinking about a portable A/C unit for use dockside. The hatch units are pretty self contained but they're also pretty big and awkward to haul around when underway. I'm kind of drawn to a small, cheap unit like this one. http://demandware....
