Re: Crossing the Gulf Stream with No Steering
Doug,
That may hold true at slow speeds.
However, I doubt it would be good practice up on a plane. I was able to run top speeds and keep a straight track with little or no effort. Practically easier than normal steering actually.

Re: Crossing the Gulf Stream with No Steering
Tony, It's real simple actually. Disconnect the tubing to the RAM to release any remaining pressure. This will free up the rudders and they will swing easy left/right. We opted to go straight to the RAM. On our there were two tubes, which we disconnected with a small crescent wrench. The fluid poure...

Re: Crossing the Gulf Stream with No Steering
Mike, It's a Jet Engine my dad discovered about 30 years ago. I went to find it for kicks. It's a small reef now. Not sure what era. Just the engine, no structures other than that. Middle of nowhere...odd. I wonder if it fell off a plane in the air...or rolled off the deck of a boat. Probably the ai...

Crossing the Gulf Stream with No Steering
I thought I would post some info to the site with the thought that it may assist another person down the line. Last Friday, May 13th we cast off from Hope Town, Bahamas en route to West End, Bahamas for the night. Then cross to Lake Worth Inlet (Palm Beach, FL) on Saturday morning. Although Friday t...

Thanks for all the positive replies and good information. If no one at our shared dock would bitch at me, I think I might mount the solar panel on the dock on an elevated pole. I bet I could even run dock lights and security with Solar as well. My resolution for filling the water tank was also creat...

Solar Panel Battery Tender
Does anyone have experience with installing or using a Solar Panel Battery Tender? My dock in the Bahamas does not have power in order to plug in and charge the batteries. Very far and expensive to run all that copper, I've gotten estimates in the $6 grand plus range for install of power. For the br...

I think Hueso's number is right there. We will know tonight. If I were to bet an "over/under" on Hueso. I'd say over. Could be in the $500's easy.

Patrick Currently we only catch rain water....we don't get that much rain, so it's a precious commodity. There is no "City" water anywhere on the island. Up until a few years or so ago, everyone relied on rainwater catchment cisterns under the house. The roof catches the water, and the downspouts ro...

Maybe this is a wake up call for many boaters to equip themselves better.
