Harry: Great story and I seem to have the same hair/intelligence inversion issue. Rumor has it that the "genius" that was working on the overrunning Detroit tried shutting off airflow with shop rags. He was heard running down the dock "the god damn thing ate my rags, she's gonna blow....." And it di...

Harry: The last "hilarious" runaway detroit stoary I remember involved the marina calling me to tell me that a detroit had runaway and I should bring down Dawn dishwashing liquid to clean Tailhook -- keep in mind two important facts -- first, it wasn't a boat from my marina, it was next one over, an...

New Jersey Striped Bass Fishing
Hey guys -- can any of you New Jersey sharpies recommend something for my office grab bag. Of all people, I got the VP I report to for our secret santa grab bag. He fishes out of Atlantic City on a mid 20s center console and just showed me a 36 inch linesider he caught on Friday. I'd like to get wha...

UV == you definitely picked the cream of the crop -- there was one just like what I showed at my dock a few years back -- I could never figure out how you would dock the pile of poo -- there is a six foot swim platform off the back and no means of seeing pretty much anything from the bridge -- maybe...

Thanks for the update -- the new machine is indeed splash lube, so it is just a matter of time before global thermal nuclear war causes it to meltdown. 7.5k, hmmm......I really don't care for the neighbor to my West much -- ever since she moved in and dumped a poolhouse on my property by accident an...

UV: You are absolutely correct. Even though I purchased an industrial use generator-it is really a throw away. It is not made for 10 days of continuous use -- I've changed the oil on it twice already -- damn thing only holds a quart plus a 1/4. I'm seriously thinking about modifying it to a larger o...

UV: Leave it to you to have the Rolls Royce of home gensets -- I remember during Katrina you noted that you had the entire extended family in your air conditioned home. I have had a Kohler 8kw gasoline fueled generator for 17 years. During Storm Irene I used it for 2 days. Apparently it got ethanoled as when I went to use it for this storm -- it went boom. I bought a new 7500kw Westinghouse -- as it was available -- and it is designed to run on up to 10% ethanol. M...

Day 9 of no power -- finally got away from the house to go to the place I work! Still many roads impassable (mine) and no power, telephone, etc. However, generator is running strong, so I have heat and light and my neighbors are staying with us until we get power restored -- the hazards of living on...

Peter: Think outside the box -- outside the engine box that is! Instead of center entry, you could have the only B31 with a Port or Starboard entry, with the opposite side haveing a staircase to the bridge. In fact, I see a lazyboy sitting on the single enginebox which is now sitting amidships. No, ...

4 blade 18x22 was the best set of props I had on my comparable horsepower Volvo Tamd 60Bs -- with a little cup. Got me an easy 24 knot cruise at 2350, but more importantly, made dock manuevering a dream - I could walk that boat in any direction inch by inch with those big 4 blades at very slow speed!

Back in the late 60s and early 70s it wasn't unusual to have a shot at trolling up a swordfish withhin sight of Block Island. As the proud owner of an 8 month old male black lab, named Kona Kai, I can attest to the breed's love for the water, and pleasing humans. My personal best for stripped bass was 51lbs -- caught in 13 feet of water on April 16. We are fortunate up here to have so many shallow reefs that I don't even think about trying to troll in water deeper than 50 feet. If I go into deep water, the trolling stops and we will switch over the 3-way rig...

I personally do not use any weight when trolling with wire. I just set out enough wire to get to the depth I want using my 1 1/4oz parachutes or bucktails. Most of the spots I fish are 30' or less so I drop out 290' of line to get a foot off the bottom. When trolling tube and worm I prefer to use br...

You troll with 28 lines????? Wow, when fishing the reefs off of SE Connecticut I consistently troll 2 lines -- both loaded with 400 ft of wire and an 1 and 1/4oz bucktail jig, or, 2 lines --- both loaded with braid and tube and worm. The action is non-stop with this setup. I can't imagine deploying ...
