Bob: The easy way to drift with more lines in the water is to use release clips which are attached to large suction cups. I've fished as many as 5 lines off either the port or starboard side by using my 3 gunnel mounted rod holders as well as 2 out of my chair which were clipped in to the release cl...

Peter: I regularly trolled 8 rods on Tailhook -- but only lures, and only straight runnners -- mostly Ahi-Ps. I had 3 rod holders in each gunnel and 4 in my fighting chair. My riggers were all double rigged and I had a center rigger. I had 3 flatline clips on the transom. One chair rod was way back ...

When I look at this thread and think back to the 7+ years of updating Tailhook, I think we all need to go to meetings and say: "Hi, my name is Tom and I'm a Bertramholic." Peter, I can't tell you the number of times I said enough is enough, I'm just going to fish the boat for a while, no more upgrad...

Peter: The B31 really doesn't lend itself to being a cast net boat -- not an easy boat to manuever around from stern to bow, and it drafts a fair amount of water -- why not use your flats boat for the cast net and then run the bait back to the Bertram? I bet it would be more efficient and a lot safe...

Peter: Do you have a bowrail on your B31? I took mine off Tailhook as I liked the looks so much cleaner without - however, I never sent anyone forward, not anchored from the bow -- I ran a line from the bow around the starboard side - this line was secured below deck in the anchor locker and also se...

My dad's first ship was the USS Kearsarge (CV/CVA/CVS-33) - one of 24 Essex-class aircraft carriers - he was career Navy and flew God knows how many missions. I put the name Tailhook on my Bertram 31 as I bought it a month after he passed away. Proudest man in the world for being able to serve in th...

Marlin Parker runs a nice operation on Marlin Magic -- nice guy too. I haven't fished on the Humdinger with Jeff Fay, however friends have and say he is very good. Walter, yes, Connecticut has CCW permits. However, this rocket scientist was playing with them in the privacy of his own home. Either he had acquired them prior to his arrests, or, he got them illegally. Up until 15 years ago, you could buy a long gun in CT and walk out the door, no permit and no ba...

Registrations???? See, Walter, that's the problem - you have multiples, which in the eyes of the government means you are rich and have an ability to pay. Speaking of which -- great job by Gov. I had a 1991 24 Albemarle for 6 years before I bought my B31 -- great little boat! Mine had a Volvo 5.7 with Duoprop. Carburated model with a flocan. If I kept the 4 barrels down to 2, I cruised in the mid 20 kt range and burned 7gph -- if I opened up the secondaries -- 16 gph. I took that little bo...

UV -- As you might recall, Tailhook had Morse Single Levers -- in order to shift easily and not hit the steering wheel, they were mounted with the curve of the arm facing outward. Although it didn't look as pretty as it would have with the curve facing the wheel, it functioned much better. If you wa...

I feel bad for those two workers -- no matter if they were careless or not -- sounds like they are in tough shape.
