wolverine heater woes

Has anyone had problems with Wolverine block heaters ? I put them on my 6bta's (250W unit from Tony Athens) about 18 mos ago. 2mos ago I noticed the stbd side was on intermittently (they should always be on). Last weekend I had the electrical cable on the port side melting at the plug with a small f...

look for a Guest battery isolator. It seems like a common choice for marine.
I just installed a large one myself for about $200.

2 inputs, 1 from each alternator and 3 out.

Patrick, thanks for the info -- I went and read the article. It is something I had not noticed on the site before. My backing plates are under saddle tanks most likely they are original. Next time I haul I'll plan on doing something about this. I am getting a little closer on the helm pod. My work s...

for Odyssey batteries they have 2 specific choices they recommend you use. Having a real high amp output charger and some very specific voltage ranges for the different charge cycles is very important for AGM batteries, apparently. 10A charger is not enough for Odyssey esp. if you ever get discharge...

Patrick,

I always assumed the stringers were wood but glassed over. Do you
have to worry about sealing up old and new holes to keep water out ?

Thanks a lot for all the details.

bonding

I've been rewiring my 31 and in addition to the stuff Capt Patrick has on the site would also recommend "The Boat Owner's Guide to Corrosion", by Everett Collier. There are some very good explanations of how corrosion occurs, how current can travel from one boat to another and cause corrosion, the b...

I'm not sure if you are looking to replace your Cummins instr panel (VDO gauges etc). My is aged and only partially working. Tony Athens has full size Cummins panels for $1100 (new) . One of these will not fit well on my bridge and you need 2. I also found this for a panel replacement: http://www.ta...

You may remember I sent you a pic of the old ones I had that were glassed over (and actually ha...

question

Gents, I am looking for some advice. I fish a 31 out of San Francisco. A couple of weeks ago I ran into what I believe was line coming off abandoned crab gear that got fouled in the running gear. I managed to work it loose the wrong way by backing off etc. until it worked it's way free -- going for ...
