Steve: The cheapest approach without throwing parts at it is to swap the carbs between engines and see if the problem follows the carb. If not it is ignition.

I have one and the main precaution I take is to only cook on the port side away from the fuel vent. I have the rodholder mount. Keep a pair of welding gloves handy, and if it ever has a malfunction just pitch it overboard.

In aircraft we used to call them peanut gauges. Small 1" analog/mechanical gauges located down in a corner of the panel to back up the electronic gauges (now glass panels).

Interesting stories Bob. My Dad served in the 444th B24 squadron in England with Jimmy Stewart. My Godfather (who originally bought my B31) served in the Navy in the Pacific. Both volunteered after Pearl Harbor. my 91 year old Godfather is the last surviving WW2 vet I know.

Try putting them in a bucket with regular ethanol gas (or better yet E-85 gas, if available) and see if it won't dissolve it.

The Emergency Management Meetings here on the Northern Neck of Virginia (between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers) are calling for higher surge than in Isabell!! Close to 5 feet above normal high. I just hope we don't get much wind with it after the soaking we have had from this Nor'easter!!

Mine also has a round cap on it with holes to open it with a spanner wrench. The basket is inside that. All the other tips above are right on the money... As for how to get the strainer of the bracket, it looks to me like there's a horizontal T on the side of the strainer... So it might be as simple as slightly lifting the strainer and pulling it away from the bracket... That is how mine works. Lift ...

They fly over here all the time out of Patuxent Maryland. The Garrett turbofans have a unique whine. They were going to retire them when Desert Storm brewed up too and they turned out to be one of our best assets.

The bell housing is where the transmission attaches to the motor. It swells out to accommodate the flywheel, hence the name.

You did not say that you had replaced the coil. Swap coils between the two engines and see if the problem follows.
