These guys were good when I got two Carters from them. They test run each carb on a 454 before shipment and have a 6 month warranty. I personally like the Carters (now Edelbrock). They are much simpler that other carbs and have never failed me.

I feel for you down in the Carolinas. I will be prepping my boat on Wednesday for the impacts up the Chesapeake Bay. We appear at this point to be in the Northeast quadrant, so that is not good. We are expecting major flooding and surge. Plus, it is expected to stall and dump lots of rain for 5 days...

My boat has two SS grab handles located on the front corners of the cabin top, so that you have something to hold onto as you go around the curved part to the bow, as well as the usual SS rail down the die of the bridge.

I think bigger is better because it spreads the load if the strut is struck while underway. The bottom of these boats isn't very thick there, and spreading the energy over a larger area helps to prevent of minimize damage.

A ratcheting crimp tool to get proper crimps. I have used a small butane torch from Harbor Freight for years. Obviously don't use it if you can smell any gas fumes or are near the tank. Ventilate the bilge before hand and you should be OK.

Kevin: You can make the tube by wrapping and taping plastic sheet over a pvc or metal pipe and wrapping the fiberglass around it. The plastic can be slid off the pipe and then you can unwrap it from inside the tube by rolling it up on a smaller tube. Make it longer than you need and cut it to length...

Kevin: How much space is there between the coupler halves when pushed back. If there is room , you can put a socket in between them and use longer bolts to press the shaft out.
