Is the pitting in the manifold or the riser? Does the manifold look like this: https://dieselpro.com/detroit-diesel-parts/453-engine2/marine-manifold/detroit-diesel-5145049-marine-manifold-for-4-53-and-8v53-u.html For that price I would see a good welder before I bought one. The tube down the dipstick hole should be long enough to reach the bottom of the oil pan in most applications. I used to use an old milk can with a gear pump on top of it from the 50's or 60's with a long tube on it until I plumbed in an oil change system.

Mine are pointed across the top of the engine towards the transom. Is this correct, who knows, but I figured any fire would be starting there and that the suppressant is probably heavier than air and would settle. Also it would smother the engine!

Are you going to use coolant to keep the dust down when you machine it or a shop vac to suck up the dust ? What tooling do you use to machine fiberglass (other than a grinder). Never tried it in the lathe before.

Carl: If you have the time you can make your own by using PVC pipe with plastic sheeting wrapped over it for a mandrel to wrap cloth around. We used to do that way back when I worked in a boatyard in high school. None of the fancy stuff was available back then so we made it.

KTM: The units are precharged. You just need to get a vacuum pump (Harbor Freight) to evacuate the lines after you connect them. Once the vacuum is drawn you turn the valve to release the refrigerant that is captive in the compressor. https://www.ebay.com/itm/12-000-BTU-Ductless-Air-Conditioner-Heat...

You don't need a rust converter with POR 15. If you can get them off, have them blasted and paint at least two coats of POR15. If not, wire brush and paint with it. Follow the instructions for best results.
