They have really improved the guard thank goodness. I was looking at a Milwaukee cordless grinder and the guard had a flip lever to tension it and was easy to remove and replace. I try to wear a face shield and my welding leathers when I use them!

Re: Stringer and fuel tank questions
I would say dig out as much as you can, make drain holes out of PVC pipe glued in place (use a segment of larger pipe if you want an arched cutout), drill holes in the stringer over the void, use caulking tubes to infect slightly thickened epoxy to fill and seal void. This is just my opinion. I am s...

Re: Backing pads for thru-hulls
If you are using a wood pad, you can drill the thru hull hole slightly oversize and use a stub of PVC pipe epoxied in to isolate the wood from any possible water intrusion. You can also use 5200 on the PVC. Grind the PVC flush and then do your glassing over to waterproof the rest of it. I have done ...

Re: Backing pads for thru-hulls
Captain Pat had a section on this. Whatever you use, use thickened epoxy to bed it in to fit the contour of the hull. The upper edges are cut at a 45 degree bevel so you can glass over them and incorporate them into the hull. If you are using composite you can probably skip the glassing in part. it ...

Could you make a plaster cast of the old one to use to drape the plexi over. You can use oven heating elements mounted in a frame to soften the plastic. Mount the plexi in a wooden frame. heat and drape over the mold. Cut to shape after it cools. I have done thinner plastic this way before.

Frank, can you post a link when you find a snubber? I have one on the fuel pressure gauge of a 4-71 I have and I think it may be clogged as the new gauge shows no pressure. Here is an inexpensive ISSPRO fuel pressure gauge you can try with the snubbers before you spend big bucks on a fancy gauge. ht...

Definitely shop in the airplane sites. Aluminum needs to be cleaned right before painting , just like with welding, as the oxides form quickly.
