Kevin: Aside from the polarity issue, do you have a hard start kit on the compressor? It is a starting capacitor that helps get the compressor turning over at startup. It might be manufactured with them. Bruce can advise you on that.

Since you have two engines, first swap the coil and see if the problem switches side, then swap the ignition module.

What type of electronic ignition is it? HEI? I would look at the ignition module as well. Actually, the first thing I would do is wait until Bruce chimes in, as he can usually put his finger right on it!

John: When you install it hold the body of the pump higher than the lever, so if the rod is slowly creeping downward in the grease, the lever will come in under it and push it back up.

Scott is right. On my 440's the port engine turns counterclockwise view from the rear, and the starboard one turns clospckwise. I think around the 80's they all went to clockwise rotation and made the direction change in the trans. What kind of engines do you have?

Mercruiser uses that system, with the dipstick tube going all the way to the bottom of the pan. Theirs is threaded also. Sorry I don't know any particulars on the Yanmars for you Ernest, but you might try a Mercruiser adapter. It almost looks like garden hose threadson those.

Steve: I hate to state the obvious, but I assume you have checked for power at the switch. If you have it jump across the switch and see if they light. If not, go to the DC panel.

Bruce: The gas in the tank is shot! I was attributing it to detonation caused by low octane, but as I hadn't tuned up the engines yet this year timing could have contributed to it too.
