I have had the same problem with Velvet Drive Tranny's. In my experience the problem is the "Bellville Spring" that releases the forward clutch when transmission is in neutral......has lost some of its shape. Stephan I am sure the performance would be very poor when the propeller is in the raw state. It would compare to having barnacles on the faces of a propeller blade and efficiency would suffer. John My opinion is that the location will be just fine. Mine are mounted on the bulkhead behind the engines and require opening the hatch's to turn them on or off....and you're right the hatch's are heavy.
