Part of my comment of ill conceived (and not thought out at all) revolved around the fact that if I bought a $450 license, I personally was not covered if I fished on my skiff or waded on a flat. When I purchased a $10 one at the East Hampton Town Hall, they wanted my driver's license. They would no...

I don't know if what I experienced is the reason, but while in the Cayman Islands I was taken out on a night submarine trip along "the wall" (the drop-off to 3000 ft of water). As we ran along the wall with our floodlights on, we saw all kinds of smallish marine life swimming along with us. The Capt...

More important than what he did for me is what he bought into my life. I really don't remember how I stumbled into the site, but it was just before the Block Island Rendezvous. My wife and I decided to make it a day trip, as we knew no one, but were curious about seeing other B-31's. The very first ...

The cup helps only on the top end of the rpm spectrum. Helps a lot on my diesels because cruise is only 2-300 rpm under wot. 3200 rpm out of 4200 wot, a prop guy will have to tell you. I have a set of Nibrals and a set of Bronzes and to be very honest, see no appreciable difference in performance in...

Go to the larger size (diameter) with the same pitch and I'm pretty sure you'll lose rpm. I agree, get verification of those engine's rated wot. If it IS 4200 (that's an area of doubt in my mind), I'd drop the pitch an inch or two. I suspect the larger diameter will give you more push for the same r...

From a strangely historical point of view, that whole armada attacked Pearl Harbor thinking that their declaration of War had been delivered in Washington earlier. The screw up was the slowness with which the Japanese Ambassador in Washington's office could decode, type and deliver the multi-paged d...

I know (I was a kid) that it was mandatory that the top half of car/truck headlight seal beams were all to be painted black during WWII as well as "Blackout Curtains" placed on the windows of all our houses. When there were Air Raid drills ALL lights had to go out for what were called "Blackouts". A...

I spent 15 years doing the advertising for Japan Air Lines. There is an inbred belief in personal honor. Once lost, you can never recover it. We thought of them as savages in WWII. I would far more trust a promise made to me by a Japanese person than by anyone else. They would rather die than lose t...

Capt. Cuda- Since you are a single engine, when properly propped, you will probably be in the 19-20 range. Don't feel bad, that's what our local waters let me run my diesel B-31 at without jarring my teeth. At Marine gasoline aiming at $5.00 a gallon, you will be far more economical than if you had ...

Our parents and grandparents were of the "hard times" generations who lived through The Depression and WWII. They understood that there was a direct relationship between performance and survival. "Fire in the belly" for anything doesn't come from schools. It's in the person. In the game of succeeding, If you have it, you will exceed. If you don't, you'll recede...and not even know why. Some of the people I knew in my business I am sure would have succeeded in ANY business they ever went into...

The problem is that most people getting out of High School have no idea of what they want to do...so...with the encouragement of their parents, go to college...with no idea of what they want to do. Back in the 60's, I was an art director at BBDO, one of the largest Advertising agencies. It's not a pain that lasts for days. Knock nature's perfect alignment out a hair and you start uneven wear on your discs. 10-20 years later you're diagnosed with a pinched nerve, and based on what goes wrong (numbness on your first 3 fingers for example) they can tell which vertabrae is causing it. ...

Most are 8'6" when you get to 13-15 weights. Don't expect too much from them in the casting department as the tandem hook/multi feathered/popper head billfish flies at their lightest are fairly heavy and air resistant. It's usually a lopping throw at a teased in fish when the boat is thrown into neu...
