Neil- The two Motels you have mentioned are in the town of Montauk, and you'd need a cab to get to and from there. I called Montauk Marine Basin at 631-668-5900 and spoke to Mark there. He suggested the Sail Inn 631-668-2800, Blue Haven 631-668-5943, and Colloden House at 631-668-9293, all are walki...

Mac-Jaded Lady is one of the heavier hulled B-31's. No? Do you mean putting her on a rack or blocking and bracing her up on the hard? Up north where we are, they fork lift and rack mostly outboard boats, but I don't remember ever seeing a diesel powered boat on a rack. They don't seem to have the pr...

Damn! Sorry to hear that. Bet my bottom dollar you won't be able to find a replacement for a loran unit's battery because they don't make them any longer. Most companys stopped making Lorans as they were betting on the phase-out. God forbid our satelites ever fail. No navigational back up besides yo...

This is a bit like the ethanol thing...took a little time to hit. We all switched from loran to GPS/chartplotters just about 5-6 years ago and the batteries are starting to go just about now. Don't know how many of you know this as I found out the hard way. If you store waypoints, secret spots, routes etc in your GPS, know that there is a small soldered in lithium battery in the guts of your GPS that has a 3-5 year life. Nowhere in my Northstar 952 book did it tell me that. Nor is there ...

Is it only me, but when I first go to open up the site, getting on is very slow. Contrastingly, if I go to the B-25 site, it's almost instantaneous. Just wondering if it's my computer or has anyone else found it to be the case. Walter

Sand down loose edges of paint on rust/peeling spots. Brush on an acid product called Ospho. The area's exposed metal should turn black. Harry- Like it or not, your swim platform is going to get wet. Also, swim platforms get stood on with wet feet, and the last thing you want them to be is slippery. In WWII the survival kits had handlines (no monofilament in those days) that were fairly thick so as not to cut your hands. I also remember a red & white striped weedless "Rex" spoon, and an easy to assemble treble grappling hook that might have been meant to be used as a gaff. If I am not mistaken,...

Northeast Rendezvous?
There has been an earlier discussion about a location for the Northeast Rendezvous. At that time there was talk of Shinnecock, as well as a reintroduction of Montauk, but not at the Yacht club. There were a few Montauk votes, but that's about it. To get the ball rolling, I tracked down Carl Darenber...

The key is an isolater. It allows the alternators to charge the banks, but does it only in one direction. by that I mean it will only allow your third bank to drain itself, but not any of your other banks. A lot has to do with how your batteries are set up with your switches. You could have each eng...

I've seen too many high HP B-31's that cause a wake coming into the marina and can't troll slow enough to catch Striped bass in our waters because at 650 rpm, they're going over 5 kts. Has to do with whether you were properly propped with your old ones. If your WOT was reached with the 22's, you'll be a bit underpropped with these. On the other hand, most prop shops will be able to add another inch of pitch. Have that done and have them cupped and you should achieve the same speed...

I have the same engines. Your input side of the Racors should have shut-off valves on them so there is no backflow or air intrusion. When you take off the top of the Racor, remove the filter, dump the bowl fuel and replace the filter, you now have an empty Racor which has to be manually filled right...

I would recommend a regular diet of a product called Bio-Bor. One oz. for every 40 gallons is the usual maintenancs regimen after "shock" treatment. Your cleaning of the tank may not necessitate the shock part. As far as your MPG is concerned, you can expect about 1.5 Miles per gallon with the engin...
