I'm curious, is the argument ; "The more water over top the more something in the water weighs" or is it; "The deeper you put an object under water the more resistance it will have because of the weight of water" Would that mean when I drop my 12 ounce jig to 50 ft. it will weigh less then when I dr...

Hey Bob, How is the noise out the transom with the compact Centek mufflers. Looks like we are going to use the Centubular tubes and was just curious how that other "small" mufflers sound. Hatches and gutters
Need to find custom deck gutters and hatches. We have a good fiberglass deck, just want to put fish box size hatches in with good gutters. Three total. Two for the sides and 1 for the lazerette. Anybody done this or know of someone that will make them.
Thanks

Bob, To finish that edge you can do a few things. The easiest was using Capt. Pats window moldings for one piece flush side windows. We fastened the moldings with mechanical fasteners and epoxy to the aluminum and then faired the cowel to that. Piece of cake (Really big cake you eat a little at a ti...

Sounds like you might save 5K after all the repairs. Best to have someone look at the higher priced boat and get a list of things that are wrong. Regardless of the list you need to establish a budget. Plan on spending 75% of that and save 25% for overage. If all surveyed as well as this boat looked ...

Listen to UV I went and test ran a used 3kw Norpro with the Farymann engine. The exhaust without a muffler was quieter than the engine, it was loud..... REALLY LOUD. If the Panda has that type engine, the enclosure would have to be made of lead to keep it quiet. Ended up buying a 6kw Northern Lights...

The general rule of thumb is "If your not sure put a fuse in it" That being said I see no reason not fuse the gauges as a pack and have port and starboard gauge fuses. Each piece of electronic equipment should be fused individually. Then it can go to a main breaker which is protected as well. Nav li...

The main idea for for us to petition at the bulkhead is two fold. First it keeps any of the fluids that hit the bilge albeit blood oil antifreeze or soap residue from moving under the cabin, where it becomes difficult to clean like when it gets under the water tank. Or further forward under the V Be...

With the rule units they have a removable base. You can glue or epoxy the base let it dry and then attach the pumb via the plastic tabs. I would not screw anything to the bottom of the boat. Remember we try to make as few holes in the bottom as possible.(this keeps these things floatin) This allows ...

Russ, The difference is about $1000 for the pair bobtailed (probably didn't say that before) When hooked to an engine the gap may close. Scot, The ZF gears are really quite good (and it kills me to say it because they are my direct competition in transit) ZF has always been typical of a German company (I know I work for one), very slow to respond slower to react. Engines are out and low and behold the gears are MG 502. We have 330's and this gear seems small. Has anyone used the 502 in higher horsepower applications? The balance on the wheels isn't that tender. You'd be hard pressed to throw a wheel out of kilter by sanding it by hand. Use the scotch brite pads, they hold up well in the water. The way I've interpreted the Yanmar/Cummins repowers regardless of engine the output at the transmission is nearly identical. Cummins is usually 1.53-1 and Yanmar 2-1, the Yanmar operates at higher rpm but due to the gear reduction the shaft is turning at roughly the same speed as the Cummins. I'm p...

West has a special coatings hardener which is recommended for clear coating. I suspect you may have needed to use #207 hardener. It comes with some UV stabilizer in it. If the epoxy is truly yellowing then your choices are only 2. 1. Pick a color and paint it. 2. Sand it all down and refinish. When ...

1. The shaft logs are usually best replaced with the glassed in tubes. Neater and safer when done right. Depending on which vintage strut you have it may be able to be bored out or you may be able to use thin walled cutlass bearings. 2 With 300hp I'd try to start with a 20"Dx23"P 4 blade propeller a...

UV I am guessing that it is light overspray. If it is real heavy you may have to start with the last suggestion in this thread. If its fairly fresh paint (less then 6 months) you should be able to use a light compound by hand. Try something like 3M finesse to start with. If you can't get it by hand ...
