Re: 28 FBC AC Install
David, I am way down in Southwest Florida in the Fort Myers/Cape Coral area where it gets hot and muggy almost year around. I have a 12,000 BTU unit in my 28 and it will keep the interior nice and cool. Of course, you will need a generator if you want to use it off shore. I do not have a generator, ...

Re: A painting question
I repainted the cowling on my Yamaha outboard a while back. The sun down here is brutal if you do not have the engines covered. The decals were on the outside of the clear coat. Man, were they expensive. I used the Yamaha rattle can and put down 3 coats of base coat, sanded with 600 wet/dry and then...

I have Bennett tabs on my 28. They are 14x9. I can trim for speed and fuel consumption using my Navman fuel flow. I can't imagine running the boat with out them.

When I removed my cutlass bearings, I found that the indented holes for the hex bolts were filled with wax and faired and painted. If I had not looked hard for them, I would not have seen them at all.

Capt. Rex. When I was looking for them I found them on line. They were gray or black, but I spray painted them white. It has been a few years or so back and I don't remember where I got them, but I do remember that I didn't have much trouble finding them. I think they are about 1 inch in diameter as...

Thanks Patrick. It looks like Acme Plastics in Fort Myers has it. At least their web page says they do. I'll be on the phone in the morning to find out.

A while back, maybe 3 years ago or so, I started noticing pieces of rotted wood gathering under the bench seat on the bridge. Sure enough, the base plywood in the in the seat was rotted and about to completely disintegrate, so I pulled the seat and replaced the rotted plywood with a fresh 5/8th inch...

Sean, several years ago, I bought a new fiberglass tank from the company that makes them out of Miami. It was the 190 gallon model and with the help of a few friends, I installed it and filled it up with gas. That was before gas went out of sight. Almost immediately, I started having problems keepin...

Kevin, I too removed the struts when I replaced the bearings. Once I got the old bearings out, I wire brushed and cleaned the inner walls of the strut while the new bearings were in the freezer over night. They went in easily with gentle tapping with a rubber mallet. Then I just tapped a dimple into...

Re: gel coat repairs
I've been using Preval for years with gel coat. Assuming you can get a good match, I usually do my own tinting and overspray some because it usually orange peels to some degree. With over spraying it, you can easily use a wet/dry sand paper to smooth it out after it sets for a few days or longer. I'...

Re: Throttle body gaskets 7.4L Mercruiser
Pete,
When ever I have a tough time finding a Mercruiser/GM part from Mercruiser, I go to the local GM dealer and get it there. Some times they are not the same, but on the other hand, sometimes they are. Mercruiser just puts their own part number on them and raise the price up.
