Harry, You are either a genius or you've had everything imaginable happen to you. I got to thinking about the belt on that engine and your comment about belt dust. It has been noisy for a long time and I've been babying it all along for the past three years. Every time it squeals, out comes the can ...

I need to add to this discussion because I just lived this scenario a few days ago. Last month, I had some friends down from the west coast. We drove down to the keys for a few days and a couple of days before they left, I took them for a howdy cruise up the Caloosahatchee river to the railroad tres...

I used the Awlgrip also, but I mixed double what was recommended in with tinted gel coat and then rolled it on my fordeck. It turned out great and is a long lasting installation. My cockpit deck, on the other hand, is the factory non skid. I have repaired it with the plastic pattern and screwed it u...

Frank, When I got ready to replace my 190 gallon tank, I siphoned all the gas I could get out from the tube, then pulled the tube to get acces to the remainder with the siphon hose. I got all but about a cup that remianed then I tied a rag on a wood pole and sponged the rest out until there was no m...

Rocky, I do not have a lower helm, but I do have three separate battery switches. There are separate banks for the port, starboard and house and they are maintained separately by an isolator. The switches that control the power for the engines are located on a panel beneath the hatch that is beweeen...

This is hard for me to believe. I ordered my 190 gal. tank for my B28 from him. He was great at getting the price I wanted to pay for the fibergalass tank and I paid the manufacturer directly. He was very helpful and I stopped by to talk with him before picking up the tank not too far from his shop....

I have an 83 28B with standard rotating merc 300HP engines. The counter rotating comes from the way the linkage is attached to the tranny's. I also have hynautic on the steering with the original rudders. The boat steers great through rough seas. The only time I've noticed squirrely steering is when...

Kevin, You are absolutely correct about aluminum tanks and urine. I remember seening one made out of galvanized sheet metal and it only lasted about a year. Stainless is another one too, but I'd get a poly tank. They aren't as strong as metal, but they are impervious to just about anything including...

Wingnut, I have an 83 diagram some where on my computer if you think it might help. I'd bypass the switch and then check the lead at the other end. I think it is under the disc as I recall. The adjusting screw holds the tension on the vibrator. The whole mechanism is like a solanoid, but the part that vibrates to make the sound is managed by the adjusting screw. It doesn't take much of a turn to make a difference. I had to play around with it f...

I've had my 28 out in the Gulf of Mexico in some pretty miserable stuff. 20 and 25 knot winds and 8- 10 foot swells. It wasn't fun, but the only time I'd get a little wet is when the wind would catch the wake and throw it up on me on the bridge. It will roll on you if you are in a trough and have th...

Just to add to what RussP said, if you leave your boat on a lift as I do, the hull tweaks a little and conforms to the bunkers it is sitting on. My bulkhead door fits pretty tight and sometimes when the boat is on the lift, it rubbs on the threshold a little, but it works good while in the water. So...

Hookshurt, Around the bronze pipe pickup, there is a fine screen brazed on. You can pull the pickup out of the tank and clean it. I did mine, but you should pull it out gently so stuff doesn't fall off of it, it was pretty clogged with varnish and stuff. I used a brush and a cleaning solution, but y...
